Canister is stuck

Is it safe to use impact driver to remove the stuck canister?

Update:

I was in a rush to change the oil last night, and I was scared of using an impact driver, but I used one anyway... the oil filter cap loosened, but the middle tab holding the metal piece broke.

I changed the oil and used the broken oil filter cap.

I started the runner and ran it idle for 2 minutes, then I noticed oil was dripping from where the tab broke.

Luckily I have an metal OEM Toyota that I bought a few months back. I just had to swap the middle part.

Since it was getting late and mosquitos were feasting on me, I decided to "drain" the oil from the oil cap and planned to leave it overnight... to my surprise, only 600ml of dark oil drained out.

Yes if you have a replacement filter housing in hand

 

Do you not have the proper wrench? I just did mine and it comes off with a little muscle.

 

This seems to happen all to often. Must have been reinstalled well beyond the recommended 18 ft lbs.

I wouldn't unless you have a replacement on hand (which you may need anyway)

 

Any chance a strap-type filter wrench would take it off without damage?

Most of the time i use these. Mostly out of habit.

 

Had a buddy who didn't need no stinkin' torque wrenches or timing lights. Didn't need a knot meter or anemometer on his sail boat either. Oh, and rear disc brakes don't work on vehicles, either. LOL!

Have known one or two myself.

 

Even if your torque wrench is way off, there is the small metal flag/indicator on the housing.


A bit off topic.....has anyone ever found the need to calibrate their torque wrenches for home use?
