Hi Guys - New member here with a recently purchased new SR5 2021. I'm looking for input on the following front end config - any idea if the Toyota Hood Protector/bug guard (part# PT42789100) will work as designed with a Westin Sportsman Grille Guard (part# 40-3825)? The 2 parts should install as expected but I'm wondering if the Westin will defeat the purpose of the Hood Protector and ruin the intended wind streaming functionality. Thanks for any thoughts ~ okritikos

It probably won't interfere, but do you really want that grill guard?

Thanks guys - pretty specific question I know. @Ajmogen would you recommend an alternative grille guard to that Westin? Thought I was thorough enough on deciding on that one but am new to Toyota and aftermarket parts for SUVs in general. Not a power user but hit a bovine in the past and was lucky to survive.

Bit of advice if you go with the AVS deflector - along some clear paint protection film along the top edge of the grill...more than likely the bug deflector will physically touch and rub off the paint.

The AVS Bug Deflector II is much nicer than the OEM version. You can get small pieces of lamin-X or paint protection film on Amazon if you’re worried about where the bug deflector touches the underside of the hood. The deflector doesn’t touch the top of the hood.

I would also advise against them. Not structural and will cause more damage in the end. I had one on an old Land Rover Discovery. Tapped a tree on a trail and it pushed the entire guard into the hood and headlights.

Hi Guys - after a bit of homework on grille guards - and everyone's awesome input here - I've concluded a self-install of a pro grade model is outta my league. Cutting the bumper, e.g., is beyond my skill level and there doesn't seem to be an acceptable middle ground for top quality protection with low-mid level installation difficulty. I lack the proper parts for the job too - I'm a bit green indeed. In the interim I've acquired a fog upgrade (OEM round kit) plus some Lamin-x yellow film that ought to help with the bovines and ungulates at night at least. This should be good for me though I know there are some pretty sweet upgrade options for fogs out there. Will post a pic when done installing. OPs' advise here is much appreciated!

Hey Guys - after a bit of a learning curve and some perseverance I got the upgraded fogs in today. The TIS instructions honestly are pretty bad and have steps that were completely unnecessary so that added some time. The OEMs plus Lamin-X yellow film looks awesome! I need to lower them a little but got rained-out tonight. I definitely had some choice words for my frustration on the right side - by far the hardest of the 2 and was done first - plus some dry cow manure kept flaking on me from the fender liner so that rounded out the project for sure LOL! The left side got done quite fast.
I hope everyone has a great weekend - get some fall foliage with your 4Rs if it's close to home!
