Is it realistic? Can it be done if the need arises? A Camry is less than five thousand pounds, the maximum load that the 4Runner can tow. What do you guys think?

Depends. Using a car dolly it may come in at or under the 5K limit. Nix that and go with a trailer and you may go over.
*Don't forget, you have to consider total vehicle weight(passengers & cargo) - plus what it is towing to stay at or under GVW. There's more, but this bit of info is a good place to start.

Plus driving at high RPMs over 1000 miles. Maybe doable, but very rough on the engine.

could be dicey...depending on speed of constant tow....RPM's, etc.....good luck

What year Camry? They have gotten heavier ove the years. And, what trailer? Or dolly?

If you're not over the limit for weight, I would do it. But, I would drive in S4 and at or below 60 MPH the whole time.

I haven't planned anything yet. The Camry shouldn't be over 3,500 lbs. I doubt the 4R could keep doing 60 MPH for a 1000 miles with the Camry stuck behind it lol. 50 MPH in the right lane seems more reasonable lol

Keep it in S4 and you'll be fine. Drop to S3 on hills. But, you're correct; the faster ypu go, the more it will struggle. I definitely wouldn't go over ~60MPH.

A raptor would do it no problem
You'd definitely want a brake controller if you don't already have one.

A basic F-150 will also do it, no need to buy the Raptor, moreover a Tundra TRD Pro tows more than the Raptor. These Raptor fan boys are funny

it will pull without an issue.
if anything, it will put a bit of a strain on the tranny, the engine will be perfectly fine.
take your time, no hard acceleration and play some music !

Saw gen5 Limited dolly towing an Audi A4 today. The dolly was from U-Haul.
Didn't notice much in the way of squat either.

The most recent Camry weighs 3500 pounds, yes, I know, it is a huge fat pig.

A flatbed car trailer is anywhere between 800 and1200 pounds.

The 4Runner does not have a trailer brake controller or a transmission cooler.

Yes, it’s one of those things that’s technically possible, but probably not the best tool for the job.

Are you renting the dolly from U-Haul? They may not even rent it to you. Years back I wanted to rent a dolly to tow a car with my Grand Cherokee, when I gave them the vehicle information they wouldn't rent the dolly because they said the weight was too close to the vehicles max tow capacity. My 97 Grand Cherokee had the exact same tow capacity as the 4Runner, 5K lbs.

I ended up borrowing my dad's 1/2 ton Ram, that did the trick and towed it no problem.

I only needed to tow the car about 35 miles.

True. U-haul thinks you need a full size diesel to tow anything.

Probably. They didn't think my 4th gen could tow a utility trailer.

Guys, I just saw a latest generation Rav4 towing a boat. I swear I'm not kidding. Don't tell me that whole thing is less than 2500 lbs.

What kind of boat? Many aluminum fishing boats are under 1000 lbs. Add an outboard motor and trailer, and you're still probably under 2k.

It looks so small from that angle, but man it was very long. Plus I saw this Cadillac with a V6 doing this.

You can get a RAV4 that's rated to tow 3500 pounds. It has a bigger engine radiator and an oil cooler and a transmission cooler.

I would bet that the boat, motor, and trailer in that picture are well under 2000 lbs. A Camry could probably tow it.

I've always been curious what a 4Runner would actually be capable of. I have a dream of hauling a car to a race track. Would definitely be a longer haul since there aren't any good tracks nearby
