About to launch into an off-road build project for my 2015 SR5 and am trying to get some feedback from the pros on here on the build I am currently considering. The vehicle will be used in west Texas, Colorado, etc. and will definitely be wheeled off-road; this is not a “just for looks” setup. Here goes...

    1) KO2 285/75r17 w/ fender liner trim & BMC
    2) stock wheels unless there is a strong reason for new wheels
    3) 3”Front/2”Rear lift: Fox 2.5 with DSC remote reservoirs, +30% stiffness rear. Or Kings, can’t decide.
    4) ARB rear differential air locker
    5) RCI full skid underbody plate (aluminum)
    6) 10000lbs Warn winch
    7) Warn semi-hidden winch mount front bumper
    8) Bolt on rock sliders (need recommendations)
    9) LED light bar (need recommendations)
    10) Toytec front differential drop
    11) 1” body spacer lift (maybe? To help clear tires)

Thanks in advance for reviewing the build and offering insights and suggestions. Much appreciated amigos.

    Mat

What spring rate are you going with in the front? And the rear? I don’t think you’ll need the body lift though, just some UCA’s and a good alignment should do.

Yes, forgot to mention new Billet UCAs and an alignment will be part of it. Haven’t considered spring rate yet, what would you recommend?

    Welcome to the forum!

With 34" tires, you probably want to consider a regear. I'm on 295/70/17's (33.5") and feel like I'm pushing the limits of the stock gears. I actually drive in S4 on the Highway a lot to avoid constant downshifting.

Otherwise, it looks like a good setup.

For light bars, I recommend Rigid. I have a 20" single row Rigid bar in my bumper and it's amazing for it's size. And, their D-SS ditch lights are amazing as well.

Baja Designs and Diode Dynamics also make excellent lighting products.

    Welcome!

    1) Are you set on the KO2s? There are better options on the market nowadays from General, Falken, Cooper, even the BFG KO3s
    2) Should be fine.
    3) All else taken into consideration, you'll probably want a front spring rate around 650lb. See here https://accutuneoffroad.com/articles/coilover-spring-rates-for-toyota-tacoma-4runner/
    4) Noice
    5) Coo
    6) Warn + some cool factor55 fairlead bling
    7) Stellar
    8) RSG sliders may well be the most popular ones out there. But Shrockworks, RCI, CaliRaised LED, Victory4x4, Whiteknuckle... you have tons of options
    9) See Rigid, Diode Dynamics, and Baja Designs recommendation above. Also ARB, Ironman4x4, VisionX... also lots of options
    10) Unnecessary, arguably detrimental. Unless you reeeaaaally want one
    11) Also Unnecessary, given your tire/suspension upgrades

Further to consider: you already mentioned aftermarket UCAs, Dobinsons adjustable panhard bar since youre changing the geometry of your suspension, rear lower shock mount armor, extended rear brake lines, (at least) new rotors + pads for brakes to stop all this new weight, possible re-gear to something taller, aftermarket recovery points like the Apex offroad ones to aid in your recovery just in case

Wow some really good feedback, definitely some things I hadn’t thought of yet. Also considering the Nitto RG tires instead of KO2, can’t decide. Didn’t even know KO3 was out

I went with RCI full skid plates in aluminum. Destroyed the engine skid plate in 2 months. I wasn’t on a serious trail when I did it. Misjudged the size of a rock and caved in the skid plate at the access door and broke all the welds. I replaced it with the same skid plate in steel. That one is holding up so far. It does have a good size dent though.
