    Hello All,

Looking at getting full aluminum skid plates for my 5th gen 4Runner w/ KDSS, since I go off-roading once a week.

I've been researching many brand options such as CBI, RCI, and ARB. I'm leaning towards CBI.

Does anyone run full skid plates w/kdss and their opinions on them?

Also looking at CBI and RCI. RCI seams to be more budget friendly all around; CBI looks to protect the sway bar and KDSS links better with the wider front skid plate. My priority just became the fuel tank though as of 3 weeks ago after I belly flopped on and creased my tank skid plate up at Big Bear.

Curious if you ended up purchasing one of these skids? I’m in the market for a KDSS compatible skid now too and the list seems limited...I’m leaning towards ARB & CBI, but also considering Greenlane Off-road from Canada.

I recently ordered an RCI aluminum engine skid for my KDSS equipped 4R. I liked the price and it came highly recommended. Waiting for it to arrive.

I've got the RCI aluminum engine skid for KDSS. Install was easy and quality is great (aluminum made it better for a one person install). If I did it again I'd be looking at the RSG metalworks engine skid as it has a larger coverage area from the looks of it similar to CBI, but RSG doesn't have complete skids yet. I also have the RSG KDSS Skid plate (to cover some of the critical KDSS components). https://rsgmetalworks.com/collections/5th-gen-4runner/products/rsgt4r5kdskpc

I hadn't considered the RSG one, thank you for sharing. To your point, it does look like it has better coverage (wider) compared to RCI. I don't do much rock crawling, but if I'm swapping it out, might as well get a good one. This ones officially on my short list.

Mine's bashed up, and I'd replace it with another OEM one if it wasn't $340 from Toyota!!

Does the KDSS Skid Plate do a better job of stopping debris/mud from getting in there? The OEM one allows dirt and mud to get caught inside, I believe there was even a thread about that recently.

I honestly can't say that I've had an issue with mud or debris getting in the KDSS component skid plate before or after the upgrade. The KDSS Component Skid plate is still open enough that if you're running through deep mud accumulation is still possible from the looks of it. I only got it because I was buying the RSG sliders and figured why not add some more protection for the KDSS system in case I end up putting the sliders to work.
