would a 255/75 or 255/80 fit on these or would I have to go wider?

    I love the Umbra Bronze!

Look at the specs for the tires you're considering. Looking at Toyo's website, the Open Country AT3 in 255/80R17 is approved for rims ranging from 6.5 - 8.5" wide, for example.

thanks. I’ve seen that and most seem to show up to 8.5 in wheels….but I guess I’m asking if it’s wise to run a narrower tire with the wider wheel?

I had a set of 33x12.5 km3’s on my fj60 with a 10 inch wide wheel and upon switching to an 8 inch wheel it changed the feel, look, all for the better. I was thinking this might fall in to a similar category.

so I guess I’m answering my own question.

If only I could find these wheels in a 7 or 7.5…

Like you concluded, it seems that it's better to stick to the narrower side of what a tires manufacturer recommends. I had read that tires mounted on wider wheels are more likely to come off the bead when aired down. Although, if you're not rock crawling, it's probably not a big concern.

I do agree that tires mounted to narrower wheels look better as well. It seems to give the sidewall a nice bulge.

You could always get the wheels and go with 285's instead. ;)

    I could…maybe I’ll go 275’s at that point. Or 285’s.

maybe I’ll get lucky and find these with a 7.5 inch width

For the price they should make them in any width you want. :D
