I know there are some OHV parks in the Bay Area (Hollister, South Cow Mountain) but I'm actually just itching for some nice, rugged forest roads, ideally ones that a Subaru couldn't handle . Anyone familiar with the area have any recommendations for trails close to Marin County (north of SF)? I know Mendocino National Forest has a ton but that's 3 hours away.

I'm not familiar with CA but here is a list of every National Forest in the USA with Motor Vehicle Use Maps (MVUM) of where you can legally drive:

    https://www.fs.fed.us/recreation/programs/ohv/ohv_maps.shtml

I have a paid subscription to Gaia GPS on my cell phone with those maps in them. A free GPS App is Avenza. It might have the MVUM maps for your local area available for free.
