Hey everyone looking to purchase a 4th gen 4Runner. I’m looking at this one with 168k miles but it’s 11k!! Is this car going to be a good Decision in the long run? From what I heard timing chain and water pump have not been serviced. Here’s a list of work I know has been done recently
    -leveling kit install
    -ko2 installed
    -all new breaks and rotors
    -front&rear axle seals replaced
    -fluids flushed
    -new thermostat
    -evac system diagnosed and repaired
I know what to look for basically but I own a 4.7 v8 100 series landcruiser currently and want this as a second car. Am I going to regret this purchase ? Any tips on what to look for?

I paid 10,500 for my 07 SR5 w/ basically brand new toyo AT3's, an interior in great shape, body was good aside from some rock chips, and aside from the rear axle area had very little rust.

V6's timing chain doesn't go bad often like the V8's does, that shouldn't be an issue. Water pump isn't a problem until it goes, and even then it's not bad to replace. The 4.0L is fairly stout except... ONLY thing to be aware of is some 05 and earlier 4.0L had a poorly designed headgasket that is prone to leaking. Usually starts showing up as a cylinder 6 misfire. But even with that, for some its an issue for others they go 250K+ with no head gasket problems.

If it were me, that's priced high for an 05, and I'd pass. Especially since it's nearing head gasket failure mileage. On a 06+, I wouldn't let mileage scare me if the rest is in good shape and the frame isn't rusted out. Check near engine mounts and the very rear crash bar mount area.

Edit: just saw the link, whoops.

Frame looks great, yay CA cars. I laughed at the Tacoma floor mats. I think I'd still pass if it were me, though.

Are you able to go see it? If not I'd at least ask for more pics of the actual undercarriage - drive train/axles/transfer case/u-joints/exhaust headers... And either way I'd ask some questions first before I put serious consideration to buying it:

-Thermostat was done but not water pump? Theyre right next to each other, why wouldnt it have been done at the same time?
-PASSENGER front/rear diff seals replaced + new hub assemblies. Why wouldnt you also do driver side? Were the bearings replaced too? Were only the inner diff side axle seals replaced or also the knuckle side too?
-What exactly was wrong and fixed in the evap system?
-Were all fluids actually flushed or just drained and refilled?
-How often has transfer case been engaged from H2 to H4 to L4 + locking the t-case? Once a week, month, year, ever?

Pending some answers, it could be worthwhile.

Two tough things you have going is that prices in California are usually more and with all the shortages the used prices are through the roof. Looks pretty clean and 4x4 is a must at least for me.
