    Aloha!

Quick question, as I’m new to the Toyota scene. My vehicle is a 2021 4Runner Trail.

I’d like to install an LED light bar behind the grill. However, I was told, and I’ve read unless I purchase a “higher-end” bar, there may be issues with the bar emitting some sort of wave which could throw off the TSS. However, I can’t get an answer about the technology (or lack thereof) which could cause this. I’ve contacted a couple of manufacturers and they say they haven’t heard of this issue or had this problem.

Anyway, any input is greatly appreciated!

TSS components use radar, and some light bars on the market do create enough interference to cause AM/FM radio issues, so theoretically I suppose those same light bars could cause issues with the TSS radar.

As far as which light bars cause this issue I couldn't tell you.

I think a better question however is how often do you plan on using adaptive cruise control with your light bar energized?

Welcome from Wisconsin! Anything is possible with electronic stuff. Like PVT Pablo said; how often would you run both at the same time?

Agreed. I’ve thought about that but I prefer everything work without the potential of components fighting.

Probably, everything is possible with electronics, and some lights of unknown origin might affect the work of TSS. When I installed a light bar in my car, I did not even think about possible interference. Also, for instance, why would the Vont LED color changing light bulb that I installed in my break room suddenly affect a phone? Such issues might likely happen if the manufacturer is violating some assembly standards. Other than that, I think you shouldn't worry.

If you run them behind the blank plate below the sensor, you will not be interfering with the TSS. You can even dremel out that blank plate if you really want to get the most light from your bar.

Upper portion of the grill without any issues. Plus there's no reason to ever use the light bar and TSS at the same time. TSS freeway and light bar off road. 20220417_144806.jpg
