    I put a deposit down on a 4runner limited on 6/30
I did exterior: Grey metallic Interior: Redwood
I did not add the third row or anything to it.
The dealer said that it could take up to 4 months, they took my deposit and I haven't heard anything since. Should I ask if it's been built or if they have any updates on it?

Welcome to the forum. It hasn't even been one month. Not sure what they could tell you this soon. Mine took almost 2 months and that was in November before this chip/COVID/crazy demand mess.

Not sure if you get it in 4months. When I check with the Toyota Dealer in Centennial CO for my buddy said that "custom orders would take up to an year to deliver". Looks like dealerships are only interested selling already allocated vehicles and not custom builds. My friend did not decide yet. 3rd row is a must and its very rare on the list.

Would you also consider upgrading to a 17in wheel? (Getting 17in wheels is the best upgrade I did for my Limited). My buddy wanted it right from the dealership. (He is a first time 4Runner potential customer, so mods is not something he would like at this point). This is the build we requested from Toyota dealer near my buddy.

It can easily take more than 4 months. It all comes down to when your dealership is allocated the vehicle. Then it has to be built in Japan (assuming your dealership didn't snag your exact build in the pipeline already). It took a month and a half for my dealership to get the allocation for our build. We'll be right at 4.5 months from order date to delivery date if it gets here when my sales guy says it will.

I would expect to wait longer than 4 months for sure. My dealer denied that there were any strict "custom builds", just trying to get an allocation that was as close as possible to what I requested. Or trading an allocation with another dealer. I put in my request for mine in early September 2020 and got it in mid-December -- all before the chip shortage.
