So I got my suspension installed a few days ago. 5100s with ome 84 front and 95 rear springs, loving it so far. The only thing preventing me from mounting 285/70/17 tires now is the stock upper control arms. As it sits now with 265/70/17 tires, there is 1.25-1.5 inches of space between the tire and the uca. With 285s I assume it’ll be less than an inch. Are hub spacers the cheapest way to get these to fit without rubbing the control arm? I’d really prefer not to buy aftermarket UCAs right now. If so, should I go with a set of 4 to make the front and rear match, or just the front two? Also, will pushing the tires out with spacers make me rub on the body mount?

aftermarket controls are usually just designed so it can droop or raise more without forcing the ball joint past its limits. I've found the stock ones are perfectly flexible and fine. as far as backspacing and offset tire/rim stuff, if it's going to rub, then yes. but if it doesn't rub, it wont.

editing to say, do all 4 if you do put spacers on. I'm not a spacer fan, just my opinion, unless it's necessary

I’m running TRD wheels with 4mm offset, so I don’t think those will be an issue. However, I am somewhat new to this stuff which is why I’m looking for opinions before biting the bullet. Are you saying if it doesn’t rub now, it won’t rub with the bigger tires? Not sure I follow what you’re saying.

if your using the same wheels you have now with an inch to spare, and put the 285 tires on
, you will be just fine, no rub. and your right, I dont think I was clear. I mean, once you put the tires on, and say (they won't be this close, but an example) they are 1/4 inch from the upper control arm, its a fluid movement with the lower, so you won't make contact. a 285 is hardly wider, it is, but hardly. it'll be great!

Awesome, that’s a great write up. I’ve actually seen a few of his YouTube videos on his 4th gen. I’ve done a bit of trimming on the fender and have pushed the fender liners back pretty far so I think I’ll be okay there. Thanks!

The stock UCA will make it hard (maybe impossible) to get as much caster as you'll want with 33s and a lift.

I had to use 1.25" spidertrax to fit 285s on my build with Icon tube UCAs. That's with the stock 18" wheels for the limited package, though; I don't know if the 17s have a different offset/backspacing. I only used them on the front since even with hub-centric spacers they increase the loading on the wheel lugs and I'm more concerned with durability than looks since it's a trail rig.

You'll likely need to get a body mount chop if you want to have full steering range; for on-road driving, you might be able to live with only getting 60-70% to lock before things rub. I had to cut my plastic fenders, but with the 18" wheels 285/70 tires are 34" instead of 33"
