    Hey there ,
Newbie to this forum , and I have a 2020 trd Venture . The car was purchased brand new in November and in the last two days I noticed that when plugging in my IPhone it doesn’t connect to Carplay , and it also shows on the phone that it’s connected/ charging for about 5 seconds then it shows not connected , then connected again , repeatedly until I unplug my phone ( hope that made sense lol ) I have made an appointment to take the car in while also googling and coming across this forum ! , the other issue is one time while making a call and having to use the keypad function on the screen ( when it would connect to Carplay ) it was like any keypad button pushed wouldn’t register during the call , frustrating when you’re being prompted to “ press one for blah blah blah , press two for this “ I figured it was an odd one time deal until reading some other threads related to the head unit . Has anyone else had this issue ?, is it something the dealer update would fix ?, I also have an iPhone 8+ and haven’t done any updates to the phones OS for a couple months ( shame on me I know, but it seems like every initial update has a bug that takes three little updates to fix ) , thanks for reading and replying !!!

There is a huge thread about the 2020's & the audio/phonecalls on here. I cannot find it now due to being tired & bed time. Someone will post the link in the AM. Superbowl Sunday has everyone asleep!

I’ve already scoured through the thread you guys are mentioning , and have just finished at the dealership after 3+hours , still no fix , I even updated my iPhone 8+ to the 13.3.1 IOS , and they said they did an update on the vehicle , hopped back in and noooooope , I plug in my phone and same deal where it intermittently connects and CarPlay doesn’t connect at all , the difference this time is it’s saying accessory not supported on my IPhone .

I keep reading all these issues with the iPhone. I’ll ask but you probably tried a different plug. I have 7plus with the newest update and I have no issues with my2020 Pro.

I have used three cables and now I’m sitting in the service bay with the Toyota mechanics , they are replacing my USB port because it wouldn’t even read the USB drive they were trying to use to do a seperated entune update , part had to be ordered so in a couple days I will update you guys !, next step would be a whole new headunit , breaks my heart on a car that’s not even 4 months old !!

Sooooo just to update , went to the dealer and they replaced the USB drive , thrived
To do the update via flash drive and noooo luck, the next step they took was to force the update through the obd reader , after that was complete they tried plugging multiple phones into the usb drive. It it still wouldn’t detect it. I am now at home with a Loaner car while they get ahold of TASK and try a couple more things , before they give them the authorization for a new headunit this just breaks my heart since the car is only 2-1/2 months old

Any final verdict here? I’m having the same issues...been reading about pulling one of two fuses to reset the head unit(?). Never heard of resetting a fuse ‍♂️

    All of them.
I know you mentioned three cords but are they all apple official cords or aftermarket cords? 2020 orp and 21 venture neither have this issue.

I’ve done a ton of research on this issue this evening. Seems it’s an issue w the newer iPhones...the cord doesn’t have enough output to marry up w the phone...even the length of the cord can factor in. Watched a YT video where the guy demonstrated the issue w the length. Newer iPhones need to draw more power than then cords allow. This is the general theory.

That being said this evening (W an iPhone 8) I made sure I had the Siri home button setting “on” (read this somewhere). I also plugged the phone in before I stated the truck.

This worked on one cord I tried, not the other.

Second point, my gf has the latest and greatest iPhone 12. This model uses a USB C Lighting cord...not compatible with the 4Runners USB outlet. They even look different the USB C Lightning is more rounded on the male end...

You can buy the “adapters”, for lack of a better word, on Amazon.

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08CNK1VVP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_dlT2_KY8bGbMAVCVV7

I also bought a new USB C Lightning cable...

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N2PKF4G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_k38bGbWGV5WW2

Apparently the new iPhone comes w one of the new dangled USB cords. GF uses a wireless charger so I doubt she’s ever looked at the new cord. On the phone, you only have a female receptor. The cord itself has a diff male end.

Give it a whirl. I’ll get the above items on Thursday.

P.S. They also sell wireless CarPlay dongles...reviews are mixed. I’ll mess w that down the road...

Sorry dude. That's frustrating. I originally thought I was having a similar problem but when I substituted an "official" apple cord and had my phone unlocked prior to plugging in to the USB my problem was resolved. Best of luck.

Try using the shortest cable you can. 1ft recommended. The USB port is very underpowered and cable length plays a large part when that is the case. I haven't had any issues since switching to a 1ft cable.

I have an iPhone 12Pro connected to our 2020 Limited using a One Pix model coiled cord, available through Amazon. It works well with CarPlay and charges the device.
