Only the Limited and TRD Pro come with remote start. None of the SR5 or TRD models have it from the factory.

Venture has it too. Lots of talk about this in previous chats: It's tied to the JBL audio 15 speaker system

It’s definitely tied to the JBL speaker system. I have a Venture model with no JBL speaker system and no remote start.

    I have a 2020 pro and I’m 99% sure I don’t have remote start.

I’ve e heard you can push the lock button 3x and hold on the 3rd and it will start of it has it. Worth a shot...

    I tried that and nothing.
I had it on my Tundra, but it was a port add on that was listed on the window sticker.

Well that sucks. I thought I’d seen lots of posts saying the limited and pro’s all have it. I think you can do it through the remote connect app on you phone too but not 100%

Yes you have remote start. Press the lock button 3 times, but hold the lock button until the engine turns over. On mine the range sucks so I have to be a few feet from the 4R which defeats the purpose. Or you could just use the Toyota app and do it from your phone.

I hope someone comes with a hack to enable it on the TRD (non pro) before I get a 3rd party remote start

Go with a 3rd party. The Toyota one shuts off when you open the door. Its so stupid. It has horrible range from the remote. The app is nice, but its only free the first year.

Which Toyota app lets you start it? I have a 15 pro and the key does it wasn’t sure of the app that will do it?

    I’ll be damned.
It must have been the range. Just got up right next to it and tried.
    Thank you very much!

I'm just curious does the 2019 TRD Pro have it as well? I'm at work and my 4Runner is at home, I can try it when I get home.

19’ Pro does not have it 100% sure. Traded in my voodoo just for the perks of the 20’ Pro.

    Monochrome everything. LED reverse lights.
you have it but maybe the dealer disabled it or something? It takes an agonizingly long time after the third push and hold for it to start fyi.

Yeah the range is awful. Its the worst remote start system by far in any vehicle. Its better than nothing, but not by much.

just confirming that the 2020 Limited has it stock. It comes with the JBL sound system so maybe that's a common thread. Works from both the mobile app and by 3X press on the key fob.

Confirmed: Just tried it out on my 2019 Pro and no worky. I do have an aftermarket remote starter which I didn't even ask for, but our fleet salesman "ass"umed I wanted it. Truck sleeps in the garage at home and when it's really cold, I park the truck in our shop at work

If you have a ‘20 Limited or Pro, who cares about remote range......use your phone or Apple/android watch to start via the Toyota App. Leave that hideously outdated fob in your pocket where it belongs.

    None
I'm new to this forum. I just purchased a 2021 4Runner TRD offroad premium and my 4Runner did not come with Romote Start through the key fob or Toyota app (I even deleted the app and re-installed it). My Toyota app does not have any of the options to lock, unlock, start, etc,.. It just shows current mileage and amount of gas.
I called Toyota corp. main and after talking to 3 different people, none of them knew which 4Runner models come with this feature and which ones did not. Based on their explanation, some models may have it and some may not!! So another exact model like mine may have this feature based on their DCM. This is the craziest thing I have ever heard!!! So basically there is no standard when it comes to a model of 4Runner. So 2 people could pay the same exact amoutn for the same exact model and one of them may have the Remote Start and the other one may not.
I'll be happy to hear enyone's thoughts.

That's nuts. I'd think these features would come with pretty much any trim as of 2021, though I'm afraid I don't know for sure which models are supposed to come with what. But I do think you can find out. I know that my 2020 Limited came with a one year trial subscription to Remote Connect, Safety Connect and related services. It's Remote Connect that allows you to lock, unlock and remote start the truck via the Toyota smartphone app. So I'd look for information on that -- i.e. I'd look for Remote Connect on the list of features posted on Toyota's website for each trim level.

My 2020 could also be remote started from the keyfob. However -- as many others will attest -- that system does not work reliably. Several people have also said it stopped working for them when their Remote Connect subscription ended. It seemed to stop for me too when my subscription ended last month. But then it worked again. And then it didn't. And then, once after it did work, it went crazy and I couldn't restart the truck at all, including by pushing the Start button, until I pulled the battery from the keyfob!

Anyway, like I said I'd look for Remote Connect on the list of features for your truck.

Actually, I went ahead and found it. Here you can see that Remote Connect is only on the Limited and Pro. However, Safety Connect (SOS button) and some other services are on all trim levels.

The fact that Toyota shuts the vehicle off when you open the door even with the fob being in your pocket makes it worthless to me.

I agree it's annoying and there are other methods for preventing theft of a remote-started vehicle. But I don't find it useless, since you can still preheat or cool the truck before you open the door, then quickly restart it.

In any case, it's when my truck did NOT turn off when I opened the door that I knew I was in trouble (see my post above and at https://www.4runners.com/threads/ma...start-then-the-truck-wont-start-at-all.21042/ ). In this instance the power windows wouldn't work and the truck shut off when I put it in gear. Then it wouldn't start again at all!

I also have a new ORP like yourself and turned 460 miles. My sales person had me load the app day I got it.

Mine works exactly as you described and for me personally is useless. I don’t need to know how many miles are on it or how much gas is in it. Maybe I am old school.

Personally for myself I will not miss remote start since I don’t plan on driving in winter or salt (trying to preserve frame). But I get what others I saying and I agree in general you would think we would have it
