Been really wanting to get my hands on a Land Cruiser. I love my 4r but can’t stop thinking about the 8cyl and 8 speed transmission. Give me your thoughts!
    Thanks

They are expensive and now are even more expensive since they are no longer sold in the US. Good luck in finding one.

Not as hard as you think to be honest at least in the northeast region. Carmax has a blk heritage 2020 for $84k, it’s actually harder to find a 4runner pro.

Used prices are through the roof. That’s almost as much as new.

I looked at LC200. Poor fuel range and lack of rear locker was a main factor to look otherwise. Less ground clearance to start with was a minor factor.
Pretty much I was thinking "why I should pay more for less offroad creds and poor fuel range. Plus its also IFS unlike old land cruisers."
If it atleast had solid axles I would pay $90K get a extended range tank and a lift kit. Without solid axles its worthless for me to pay $90K.

I think the LC is a great vehicle that I will never be able to afford. The LC is also way too large for my needs, the 5th gen 4runner is already way too large for my needs. But I do love the over built nature of the LC, I wish Toyota had the same 25 year attitude about the 4runner.

Atleast in Sri Lanka (Asia where I was born) we still get proper Land cruisers for dads. Land cruiser 70 series 4.5L V8 turbo diesel with solid axles. Troop carriers get a big 180L diesel tank (as far as I can remember).

My dad's work place had LC70 and old school Mitsubishi Pajero (shaped just like LC70). Some trucks were bullet proof for cash delivery. No tech no-nonsense work horses. They used the bullet proof ones for site visits where they had war with terrorists long ago in my childhood. The army escorted with Land rover defenders front and back. I remember he was saying that the driver say "sir 100kms+ and we stop for nothing". Sometimes he comes to for my school pickup and was a show-off thing for me to my buddies. I used to love those machines so bad.

I had a 100 series - lifted & sliders. It was one of the best vehicles I've ever owned. The only reason I sold it was because it was pushing 300k miles.

The rumor is that even though the "Land Cruiser" won't be sold in the US anymore, Lexus' version still will be.

I have had/have 2; both FJ40's. A 1983 that I foolishly sold and a '69 that I still have. I LOVE them but I cannot drive the '69 (350 CI Chevy with3 speed manual.) No power steering (twice broken knee cap and an upper arm broke in 3 pl;aces). I cried when I finally got the '69 running and realized I couldn't drive it! So much my wife gave me her Gen5 4Runner to fix -up (I bought her a late model RAV4 in echange, which she LOVES!).
The old FJ's cannot be beat for off-road!!

PS: I have the '69 listed for sale with many extras!

I’m really intrigued by the 8cyl for towing and power and the 8 speed trans. Although the size of the vehicle is not ideal. And certainly don’t need a 3rd row in the way!

Might not be a good option for towing with poor mpg 5.7 v8 with small 24gal tank.

Eh. The 80 series are pretty badass.

I do agree that the 2 door Jeeps are cooler, though.

The one in the top picture looks like a 450 to me. That would be the Lexus equivalent to the FJ80. Those are definitely more badass than a 4Runner. Lockers can be added.

With the 100 series/LX470 (~'98+) they went independent front suspension, so they lost some capability.

Found this funny pic from a different group. Wish new 4Runners & Land Cruisers 100+ still comes with solid axles.
(I would be so much comfortable adding a front locker)

Toyota would never put solid axles on a US bound vehicle, even though it is better off road. I wonder how many solid axles they would sell if they made it an option on the 4runner. On one hand most people buy a 4runner thinking they need a capable vehicle, on the other hand most 4runners don't get taken off road by their original owners.

Independent suspension is better on washboard roads. Just saying.

Update-I traded in the 4runner pro and made great money on it and got into a 2016 LC. I’m getting around 17/18 on the highway and 15 around town(really about the same as the 4R). It’s so much more solid feeling to drive around and it has great power, here is a picture!

90s land cruisers are fucking awesome. I often think of selling the 4runner and getting one of those. But its hard to find rust free lowish mileage in my area. I've been looking for one out west to fly out to and road trip back.

But either way can't go wrong, 4runner or cruiser

I got it for 61k and they have me 55k for my Pro. I’ve been searching all over and found this in West Virginia and I live in NY so I had to go get it.

Too big for my taste, the 4R is just the right size for those tighter trails.

I used to work for a company where we would have to drive clients around to shop and such. The vehicle that all the employees fought over to use was a 90s LC. I even arm wrestled a fellow employee for dibs to drive it on my shift
