Ok so getting ready to go and get my first 4 runner this weekend I have a wife with 2 kids and I’m making it out fun let’s go out for a drive/beach wagon problem is it’s a straight drive and I’m wanting to change to an automatic my question is what transmission should I be looking for??? Can I just get one out of a older Tacoma does everything line up is it worth even doing?

It’s more to it than just bolting one in, in most cases. A manual transmission out performs the available auto trans of that era all day long and is much preferred for a 22re or 3VZE. My opinion, not worth it.

If it has the 22r don't do it. The 4 cyl doesn't make enough torque, you will miss the 5 speed terribly.
If you are set on doing it get with HUGHES performance and order a 17-2100 stall converter so it's not a dog.

It's only worth going to automatic if you have one leg.
