Iv had pool of water on my floorboard almost every time it rained and could not figure where it was coming from. I checked the AC drain hose and even modified the hose to extend directly away from the body...still no results. Found out after taking to Toyota that the pwr roof drains were clogged. Took about 20 minutes and Ive never had the problem again. Paid $189 for diagnostic. Starting to learn some of the quirks Im going to endure with this truck.

It's a common issue on the 4th and 5th gens. Once a year I check the drains, lube the tracks and clean the sunroof area when it's open. I'm not a huge sunroof fan, I'd rather the extra headroom.

How do you check the drains do you just simply open the sunroof and can you see them when open?

They are either side of the sunroof..open the roof and you will see them facing the front left and right in the water well area

Might want to use some sort of thin wire or maybe some weed wacker line to run it through....thats probably what I will do with mine the next time

I do not keep that roof window open when parked under trees .. that is how they get plugged up.

could use air pressure , put a air regulator on the output, use low pressure to blow out the lines.

So I'm assuming this happens when left open and their allowed to block up. Please tell me the sun roof doesn't leak or allow water into that "well" area when closed.

water enters that well area not a perfect seal which is why these roofs on all vehicles have drain holes..
after the spring pollen falls I open the roof glass and clean it up with a sponge.. then I spray silicone on a soft cloth and wipe down the rubber seals so that the rubber stays soft and repels the debris from getting into that well area ..

common if its not cleaned and its open a lot ..

That stinks that this has happened to you but thanks for sharing, my first vehicle with a moon roof so have been wondering if people have issues with them.

What exactly do you use to moisturize the seals I'd like to get some. I know Honda sells a grease they recommend for door hinges and also "moisturizing" seals and gaskets I suppose I could just get a little tube of that. No real rush immediately as it's a 2018.

The other guys are correct and it probably IS just that the holes are plugged with debris. It's an easy fix. There are holes in both left and right front corners. They also exist in the rear corners and they are a little more difficult to get to.
With the driver's door and sunroof open, climb up so that you are standing up through the open sunroof. As suggested, run some weed wacker line ( you'll only need 4 feet) down through the holes. You'll feel when you pass through the blockage, most of the time. Then, pour some warm water through the holes...4-6 oz is plenty. Voile! You may want to clean the rest of the ledges as best you can so that it stays clear for a while. I had this issue 6-8 months ago. It's a easy fix. Best of luck.

I have never seen the need or advantage of a hole in my roof. Add the inevitable screw-ups that will occur over time and this is why I have purposely never had one. Unfortunately I do now. Not happy but the TRD Ps all had them. Did I mention they serve no purpose and are totally useless?

I don't use mine very often maybe open it 5 times all summer but I look at them like A/C even if you want/need it a handful of times a year WHEN you want it they totally seem like their worth whatever you paid for it. Good resale point of interest too.

We used to use a piece of weed eater cord to clear the holes. I buy mine by the roll so was was nothing to spool off 10 feet for the job

No purpose ? I use mine in combo with the back glass down a few inches and get a nice wind chill without the noise that the side windows would cause at highway speeds. Also enjoy the light in certain situations and seeing nighttime sky in the middle of nowhere.

Me too...I love mine and do the same thing. It was actually the deciding factor between the two premiums they had in stock. I use it all the time.

My 2013 trail edition driver side is totally wet today too after heavy rain for 1hour...
The top of A-pillar was starting wet first, then the down side control panel just like water fall after...
A bunch of water drain from left side control panel upon my foot when i was going to drive back home...

Later on when on the way back home, the multi-terrain system seems activate unintentionally and randomly (i was in 2WD mode) so center display show "multi-terrain system cannot be selected..." several times...
The center side is dry (supposed to be), i didn't see any leakage, the leakage are all at driver side.

May i know is this same symptom as sunroof drain clogged?
Hopefully it's simple mechanical/physical fix, nothing matter to electrical or deep tear down repair required... :(
Can anyone help to comment? appreciate for the help~

Fried had this issue years ago in his Lincoln suv. The sun roof drains would clog and creat the same problems. On his truck the drain tubes for the sun roof tracked through the A-pillar down to the drivers and passengers door and dumped out at the bottom corner or each door opposite of the door hinge side. We found that weed eater cord was perfect for clearing the clogs. Started from the top and push out the crud. I’d likely follow up with a diluted bleach mix and then flush with clean water

I was once parked on a steep incline, during a heavy rain. This caused one drain line to take all of the rain. When the drain could not handle to incoming load, it leaked into the cabin. There was nothing wrong with the drain, it was the steep incline I was parked on.

I parked at incline heading downward too and have a tarp connected to the tail gate. All the rain on the tarp was flew on the roof. If this is a rational suspicion, perhaps it makes front side drain out of the design expectation...:confused::confused:

I had a Mazda that had mold growing in the sun roof drain tubes, which were clogging up. Parking under trees will do strange stuff to a car.

Pouring some 50:50 bleach/water down it cleared the clog.

Finally, it was a drain tube loosen and that spent me around $500 to fix it and clean the carpet and check all the wiring make sure those are no damaged. Hope that won’t happen again…

did the repair tech give details on how the drain tube fell off or did the drain tube break off and cracked ?
many Toyota and other manufacturers use plastic parts that breakdown.
