My fishing buddy just had his 2004 Duramax stolen while doing work as electrician at a truck plant.

I remember a thread about theft and thought I would share his idea to prevent thief next time.

He plans to put this underneath seat cover and take a bite of crime.

given the way things are going and the prices of used cars, this is only the tip of the iceberg
declutter that garage up and park your cars inside, boys, easier than to deal with the insurance jerks

Booby trapping can open a new can of worms (legally) that's why it's better to just shoot them if you catch them and only leave one side of the story...he came after me and I feared for my life. Jokes (or not) aside, go ahead and take it, just make sure it's never found again.

Add 2 kill switches. One for the fuel and one for starter. Chances are they may find one but not the other.

I had a friend that would leave an empty, open gun case on the front seat of his Jeep to give opportunists a second thought.

Our 4Runners supposedly have OEM “theft deterrent” systems that do just that. Any idea how the thieves overcome that?

    Fuel pump shut off system:
    page 473 - '21 manual.

"To minimize the risk of fuel leakage when the engine stalls or when an airbag inflates upon collision, the fuel pump shut off system stops the supply of fuel to the engine."

It appears to be hardwired to respond to these situations specifically. Not sure if it shuts off as an anti theft deterrent when the ignition is turned off - or not? Great question for a knowledgeable Toyota tech.

A gun case of any kind visible in a vehicle seems like perfect reason for someone to want to break into a vehicle. I put a keyed kill switch from the starter to ignition I'm my first gen.
