You don't come across like to me. I think, without knowing the context, your request was reasonable. Good news, we are both still young enough to learn from it and move on. Big ships turn slowly and often, unjustly. If you're talented you should be compensated. If they are arrogant then they deserve to lose a quality person.

I didn't do a great job summing up my previous thoughts but here it is.

A survey I was reading regarding talent management.
The #1 reason people take a job is money. The #16 reason they LEAVE is due to money. The #1 reason they leave is bad management, and apathy.

In other words, you'll come for the $ but you'll stay even if it isn't the best if your experience is good. A bad experience and bad pay means you've decided to leave LONG before $ is the real issue.

Ya, I hear that. (I edited my previous post after you had quoted it btw). One doesn't stay at a company not treating them right for 11 years so I was pretty happy overall. But I fully expect as my responsibility goes up my pay should go up as well. I'm not living life to be stressed without being compensated for it, lol.

    In my world this is:

You can work for a shit boss if the money is good and the agency is good

You can work for shit money if the boss is good and the agency is good

You can work for a shit agency if the money is good and the boss is good

If any two things are bad then the remaining good thing ain't enough to keep you there

I tend to not say there are special circumstances but in the case of LEO I don't feel it's completely unique, but you're right, it's more restrictive. I got a lot of people like my uncle who works in Cybercrimes Against Minors and has to deal with actual scum of this earth and the pay isn't enough, the work sucks, but in his case if he can keep one PoS off the streets he endures. Public service is a completely different philosophy and it largely driven by internal morals and guiding principals rather than money. Cause in the case of teachers and police, you're always the bad guy and you get paid nothing for the pleasure.

I know it's not possible for everyone, but this is why I'd rather take the risk and work for myself. It does have it's drawbacks of course, and I understand it's definitely not for everyone.

But just the thought of working the 9-5 corporate lifestyle makes me stir crazy, especially when you have all theses blogger kids pulling down millions on youtube and living the life everyone else pretty much dreams about. Long time ago, I took a leap, left my corp job, and said never again would I work for someone else. Never regretted it for a second.

I admire those who grind out those difficult low paying jobs so the rest of us can enjoy the good life. Especially those in public service positions. I have nothing but respect for them.
