I checked on the tire and it states DT - I ordered the snowflakes, that's why I said in previous post, yes, snowflakes. I called Discount Tire, they said, you can bring them back. Hence, I don't want to deal with it anymore, I live in the SW so I think I'm fine.

    Hello Jake,
The guy from the alignment shop couldn't give me the caster number, he said, most likely not saved in the computer; bummer. Hence, I put the 4runner to the task, no rubbing at all. https://www.4runners.com/threads/moab-ut-with-dobinson’s-lift-and-bfg-ko2-285-70-17.20940/

You said E rated tire but pic looks like it says Load Range C on tire. :notsure:

If you ordered E then you might want to ask for adjustment on your bill for the tires.

That said, load C is fine on 4Runner, Tacoma, etc

Just because I suspect, but I’m not sure: without the lift this would be impossible or require cutting, right?

Hmm, you are correct, I need glasses. I know It's a DT tire hard compound 10 Ply, which works for me when driving on sharp rocks. Hence, yes I ordered E - I will tell Discount tire. Thank you for the comment.

I'm not sure, most likely 285/70/17 will be too big to fit without a lift. Hence, even with my lift some knowledgeable members here thought off-road with full lock or heavy compression I would rub, no rubbing no cutting, mudflaps all ok.

    Yup.
I have 285/70-17 KO2 load C on my 4Runner now. I didn't need the stiffer sidewall and higher load capacity of E.

You can even get some tires this size in p-metric to be lighter and cheaper than the LT versions if you don't need the higher LT load capability. Had some on a Tacoma years ago and they still did fine out riding fire roads and trails.

Can get 34s (285/75-17) in load C rating too but I think that is biggest you can get in C rating. I had it on a Tacoma for a while with the Nitto RidgeGrappler but there are a few other options now too in this size.

Looked at my invoice, yep, C rated and not a 10 ply - 6 ply. Called Discount Tire, got a coupon $100 for the next purchase with we are sorry for the mistake.

I had nothing but balancing problems with my E rated tires on my 2013 FJ Cruiser TT (Stock BFG Tires).

The Toyota Dealer could not get them to balance (3 attempts) and it had the famous 50-55mph shimmy, steering wheel was wobbling back and forth.

E-Rated tires are meant for really heavy vehicles, like a Ford F250, and require a minimum of 46 PSI (My Door Sticker was updated in 2014 to read 46 PSI as per a NTSB Bulletin on E-Rated Tires). At 46 PSI it road like a rock and only the center of the tire was touching the road. (See Chalk Method for Determining correct PSI)

Switching to C rated tires fixed the 50-55mph shimmy and they rode great. I ran the C-Rated tires on the FJ at 36-38 psi. I believe the C Rated were about 10 lbs lighter per tire than the E Rated.

Your guy might've trimmed your bumper for you.
I had a BMC done, UCA's installed by a body shop in April. A separate shop installed 285's for me. The Body Shop then trimmed my bumper and pushed the fender liner forward to eliminate tire rub.

Here's a general article on bumper trimming and fender liner pushing.

I have SPC UCAs, 285 tires, stock gray TRD wheels, and an Eibach Pro Truck Lift = no rubbing from the SPC UCAs.

Then again, I figure anyone that would go to the trouble of UCAs would already have a suspension lift.

Nothing trimmed, mudflaps still there, no dammage, no UPC's. Just came back from Moab, did some trails rated difficult (Full lock left & right) lots of compression, no rubbing. Dobinsons lift as stated 2.7' Front 1.7 rear (Coils & Shocks) just back, will take some close-ups, so you can see, nothing else done.

Some phone pics from my trip, does it look trimmed or modified to you? I'll take some better pics tommorow, let me clean the wheelwells real good, the red dirt might be confusing. Picture below full lock to the left down sandy hill.

This is awesome info - I thought they would fit without a lift since I have a leveling kit. Nice to know I’m not wrong. I’m about to buy tires. I also saw a forum saying that the 285 wouldn’t fit on the factory TRD wheels but I see that’s also false. You didn’t have any issue with the wheels either? And do you also have a leveling kit? Looks great!

285/75/R17s rubbed like crazy on mine, before the lift and chopping.

Looks awesome! Also just installed some 285/70/17 with leveling kit on my limited. IMG_0858.jpg Minimal rub - 10 minutes with the heat gun zero rub at full turn.
