    Salutations fellow Michigan 4Runners.com members!

How about stating whereabouts in the great mitt you live? Would be real cool to get a meet together sometime!

Harrison Township (Macomb County) here, with a MGM 2023 TRD ORP.

    Your turn :D

I noticed we didn’t have a specific Michigan thread on here, so figured I’d kick one off.

Also, I’m doing a day trip to St Helen this Saturday (October 10th), if anyone wants to meet up and hit some trails. Hoping to see some good fall colors. Was up a couple weekends back, and they were just barely staring to change then.

Great to hear from Michigan...I'm a former Michigander, myself....Southfield, by way of Ann Arbor. (Go Wolverines !) anyhow, I sorta miss those Michigan winters....LOL...as in Memphis, they are much milder...2 or 3 inches of snow, the city shuts down, it's panic city!..on the flip, memphis summers are hot and humid...brutal! The one true thing I don't miss from michigan, is the use of salt on the roads, and the rust that seems to infect many of our beloved vehicles...which seems to send many a car/truck to junk yard..

I used to travel to Dallas often for work; I remember being there for a meeting in January once, when someone suddenly barges in to let us know that it's snowing outside, and they're advising everyone to head home or back to hotels. It was legitimately barely a dusting, lol.

Yeah, the salt is a PITA; I've got a whole pre and post winter prep process to combat it the best I can. On top of the frequent winter time washes. But love winter aside from that. Winter wheeling's also a blast. All the forest roads that are fairly boring in the spring/summer/fall, suddenly pose a challenge.

I'm in SW lower Michigan. I have no idea where to go off-roading near me. Me and my buddy both have TRD OR and are going to Tennessee and Kentucky next week. Windrock in Tennessee and Blue Holler in Kentucky. Should be a hoot.

Drummond island looks like a hoot. I'm not much of a camper. More of a go off-roading and then go home or grab a hotel. I'm also interested in trails in the Copper Harbor/Houghton area in da Yoop.

For SW Michigan, I know some people like to roam around Yankee Springs and Barry State Game Area, but not much there except dirt roads and the occasional mud (which is somewhat frowned upon, because groups go there and rut up roads, making it tough for the average person to pass through).

For lower peninsula, my typical go to areas are St Helen/West Branch; Mio; Grayling; or up around Cadillac/Mesick. Though anywhere within Huron/Manistee national forest you can find trails that go all over (as well as some state park/gaming areas).

For upper peninsula, there are trails/seasonal roads all over the place. Typically not much from a challenge perspective, but some great scenic views to be found.

Will likely be doing a day trip to either Grayling or St Helen here soon (likely in April). In June we're heading to the UP for a week - starting around Munising area, then spending a few days up around Copper Harbor.

Thanks for the information. I'll do some research on the SW Michigan sites. I'm somewhat familiar with the UP. I grew up in Baraga and went to college at MTU. We were dirt poor so the only trails I did were on foot. I get back to the Yoop at least once a year to see family and my nephew goes to Tech. My next trip will be the first one to go exploring. Should be a hoot.

    Hey all,

Moving to St. Joe (actually staying in a hotel Sunday-Thursday nights right now). I'm looking for stuff near by that I can check out after work. Any suggestions would be great.

Edit: Just realized my post earlier was pretty much a mirror of what I'd already wrote above previously, lol. So amending this one to just say "Welcome to Michigan!"

Welcome ^Back^ to Michigan is more like it. I grew up in Michigan and moved out after in 2016. My family lives outside of the Flint area and I'll be over in the Auburn Hills area a lot starting in June (only on the weekends).

Maybe we could get a Toyota's and Tacos meet going somewhere near there.

Michigan friends just curious what you are guys are doing to prevent frame rusting (fluid film or anything else)? I just got my new ORP a few weeks ago, loving it so far

Twice a year (pre winter and post winter), I'll get under and wire brush away any surface rust I find, then spray a rust converter, then after it's had time to work, I'll rattle can some satin black over it.

The easier and more popular method of course is the fluid film or similar; I'm personally not a big fan of it just because I don't like the smell, and also I'm often tinkering and adding/removing parts and what not, and it gets a bit messy and annoying to work around... but for the vast majority of others it can be the ideal solution.

trick is to stay ahead of the rust..underneath...wash vehicle, especially underneath at car wash...and monitor for any type of rust..we don't have that big of a problem in Memphis..little or no snow most winters....
