Yes. I was visiting a friend near Bear Creek over the weekend. I decided to get up early Sunday and head up for some fun. There are some sections opened up that have been inaccessible for the last few years due to tornado damage.

I'm also headed up that way this weekend with a friend who has a ranger who has never been off-roading before, at least in Wisconsin. I'm looking to put together a group run maybe in mid-july. Also, I did reserved a site at Boulder Lake for August 19-22 (I think, Thursday - Sunday).

I have gotten everywhere from 12 - 20 with them. :) It really depends on what you're doing.

I totally agree about the off-road performance, though! At 20 PSI, they walked right through anything I attempted! I am more impressed the more I use them. I will most likely buy another set once these are down to about 50% tread or so.

I've been thinking about building a different sleeping platform setup. Today I picked up some plywood and got started.

My recovery gear and tools will now stay in the drawers full time, so it will be less work changing over to camper mode.

Eventually, I'll build a shorter, separate platform to level the rear seat-back with the new platform. This is what I have so far:

Don’t worry about 75w90 in the transfer case. I called 5 local Toyota and 2 Lexus dealerships and all use 75w90 for the transfer case.

    Awesome build by the way!

    Thank you!

I still have the 75W-90 in it and it's working fine. I might just switch to the Toyota stuff at the next change, unless it acts up before then.

No. It's just strapped down with a ratchet strap for now. I do intend to build a nice bracket for it eventually. I just haven't gotten at it yet. It's been pretty good about staying in place, but I know it would be safer with a bracket.

Here’s my email from Toyota Corp about 75w90 being ok to use. Just a piece of mine.

No need to spend $80+ a quart of the Toyota 75w fluid. A solid 75w90 will be fine.

Awesome picture! That was almost 2 years ago exactly. I'm looking forward to another trip down the on Saturday!

I'll have to stop by after your wife's 4Runner arrives and try to get her interested in some mods! :D

Or, keep her 4Runner stock, and pimp out your Taco!

I just know in 4 years I’ll have 125,000-150,000 miles on the Tacoma and the 4Runner will have 20kmiles. I already told her I’m taking the 4Runner in 4 years and she can use my Tacoma for trade on her next car/suv.

I built the other half of sleeping platform V2.0 after work today. I kept it simple, as I actually plan on doing more tent camping in the future. The truck sleeping setup will be reserved for situations where I might not find room to set up a tent, and remote camping.

    20210624_201323_(1).jpg

It turned out good! The rear edge overlaps the rear section of the platform. It's only 1/4" birch plywood, so the overlap shouldn't be noticeable through my foam mattress.

    20210624_211635_(1).jpg

As it turns out, the front section fits on top of the rear section with the seats folded up. I didn't really plan it that way, but it's actually kind of nice!

    20210624_204020_(1).jpg

I loaded the drawers with my recovery gear, and was surprised how far I could pull them out without the platform tipping out. I'll figure out some sort of stop to keep me from accidentally pulling the drawer all the way out.

Haha! I'm trying to find a cheap beer I like. I drink a lot of local beers, which are delicious but expensive! The Banquet is pretty good.

The Banquet beer is actually pretty good.

I can also do a Miller Highlife or a Pabst from time to time.

But eff Coors light, Bud light or any of that shit. Don't waste my time

    Good looking drawers Thatbassguy!

I drank a ton of Pabst and Miller High Life in my 20's. I can still drink them on occasion. I don't actually hate Bud Light, but it gives me a headache.

Thanks, @nimby ! I'm glad I got it done in time for the mall crawler show in Chicago this Saturday!

I think I had too many of the cheap beers (Old Style, Old Milwaukee, Busch, etc) when I was young. Developed an allergy to the cheap stuff - gives me hives. Coors Light is the only cheap beer that I can stand. While I hate IPA's I do like foreign beer.

Ooh, Old Milwaukee sparks some memories!

I think the worst beer I ever drank was Mountain Creek.

There's a story that starts with a case of Mountain Creek, a bottle of Old Thompson Whiskey, assorted energy/booze drinks, no dinner, and a fishing boat. It's entitled "The Stupidest Night of My Life"

Some stories are better left untold. Plus, we can all have fun imagining what happened.

In fact, thinking about that night, I must say that holy sh*t Bassguy, I never would have expected that from you!:eek::eek::laugh::laugh::laugh:

I’ve been on the keystone light wagon lately. Cheap and not bad at all.

Good suggestion! I'm pretty sure I've had one or 2 of those in the past and didn't mind it. And, a low carb/calorie beer would be a good idea!

I believe that's basically Coors light. I had a group of friends who always drank that when I was younger.

I decided to modify my Viair 300P compressor. The gauge was attached at the valve stem connector, so I would have to turn the compressor off and walk over to whichever tire I was inflating to check, then back to the compressor to turn it back on, back and forth, etc.

So, I decided to make a new hose with the gauge right at the compressor. The first thing I did was change the connector at the compressor as the connector it came with was not compatible with standard 1/4" fittings. You can see the difference here. The Viair connector is on the left.

I used a vise-grips to keep the tube on the compressor from threading out while I removed the connector.

I picked up a generic 25' × 1/4" hose, and threaded a valve stem connector on one end. I used some thread tape that was hanging by the air fittings at the store.

I used a T connector to attach the hose and gauge to the compressor.

I realized that a cheap 300 PSI gauge was a poor choice, so I ordered a quality (hopefully) 60 PSI gauge from Amazon.

    So far it's perfect!

I'm doing small inexpensive mods to keep me entertained while I try to save some money for things like camping during the summer. :D

EDIT: If anyone is considering doing the same thing, do NOT run the compressor unless it is hooked up to a valve stem. @Moon Landing has brought to my attention that due to using a closed end chuck, pressure would build in the hose and potentially damage the compressor. This is in the Viair manual, but I never read through it.

It's good to be on a forum with people who know things!

    Like it

If memory serves me there was something in Viair's manual about using a close end chuck. You may want to check :notsure: ......... IF, memory serves me.

Thank you! I'll have to look into this. I'm not sure what a close end chuck even is.

It's a chuck which will not let air pass freely when the compressor is running, but not connected to anything. (most chucks must be connected to a valve stem to open them up). I think Viair's concern is building too much pressure in the system. They advise having it connected to to a valve stem before turning the pump on in order to protect against over pressurizing their system. Or something like that....;)

    EDIT

    From my 440P manual:

"Use of a close-ended tire chuck will cause excessive pressure buildup if the tire chuck is not attached to tire valve stem while air compressor is in operation."
