This market is getting out of control.

Last year I paid $33k for my gx460 and was offered $40k for it.

6 months ago I paid $30k for our 2016 4runner and was offered $37k for it haha.

With that said I’m keeping both

So it’s been a couple weeks since I cashed out. Enjoyed no car payment but won’t lie. I miss the runner more than any other ride!
When the market stabilizes I’ll be back in one. Every time I see one on the road I’ve got regrets.
Lol, miss it more than my ex’s

That’s why I’m keeping both. I know I’ll regret it if I sell it. I got good deals on both so why not enjoy them.

I really do think that way, but I have ADD and should be working whenever I am on this computer instead of reading and viewing 4Runner porn. I picked up a new 4R four weeks ago, and I have found this forum to very helpful and entertaining before I pulled the trigger on the new 4R. Between the mtn biking, skiing, hunting videos and now this site, it is a wonder I get any work done. The opportunity cost is killing me!

Could be like me, getting a new 4R anyway, and researching the best DIY routing table to put together so I can design my own custom drawer slide/bed platform thingy for the back lol. Might as well blow ALL the money.

When I bought my 2017 limited two years ago, the 4runner then had the highest resale value of all cars I could find, but yeah, this post prompted me to look at kbb and dammed if it's not worth about 5k more now than what I paid for it then... amazing.

WOW! What's high mileage? Just hit 118k on my 13, would take 23k for it in a heartbeat. That's more than I paid for it 2 years/40k miles ago lol.

That's probably enough to cover the sales tax also. But then, you would have to go through the hassle of trying to buy the same 4R all over again. LOL

Yeah I added GAP because I rolled $8K from my old Jeep into the loan. What an idiot. I wish I had traded at the beginning so all that would have been covered with these crazy prices. Oh well. I will have a ton of equity either way.

Like I said before, I believe the 6th gen version will be the last all-gas version of the 4Runner, ever. I wouldn't be surprised to see the value go up even more for used 5th gen models.

And even further, I believe 6th gen will be the only hybrid version, as Toyota and other manufacturers make a huge push to go all EV by the 2030s. Times are changing.

$10K add on? They must be on crack. And anyone who pays that should get their heads examined.

In 2017, I bought a 2018 SR5 Premium for $36500. I didn't need it but I bought it because i) I needed the business deduction and ii) T4Rs historically hold their value. Only drove it 4k miles in 4 years...all local/highway driving, no off roading.

Just sold the 2018 last month to Autonation (on a price match to Vroom) for $42696. Then bought a new 2021 Trail Special Edition for $42300. Because I did not "trade in" the 2018 for the 2021, I didn't get the tax credit normally available in GA. So I basically paid about $3000 in taxes and dealer fees to swap out to a newer model with full warranty, better tech, and in a better looking trim (IMO). I don't normally pay MSRP, or anywhere close to MSRP, but the used value justified the purchase.

Crazy market but definitely opportunities to upgrade.

I decided to not trade my Pro because all the upgrades for ‘21 I already have like LED’s. Also I would have to lift again and do all that stuff. Plus finding a Pro for same as I paid 18 months ago is impossible.

No sales tax in Oregon (they get it other ways of course) so that makes it more tempting. Would still be in a pickle about replacing it though. You need to be in a position to wait it out if you really want to capitalize on these insane offers.

For those looking to sale. Vroom offered me $58,500 on my 21 Trd Pro in white. givemethevin.com beat the price by $250.00 but i'm still negotiating. My 21 lunar should be here any day. Paid msrp for both.

Former T4R owner here. I pulled the trigger last month, but am fascinated by this thread. Those asking what would I get instead have to take into consideration that the prices of used cars might come back down within 12-18 months. I don’t know if that will happen, but it’s possible. Unload it now, buy a beater to drive around for a year or two, then get another T4R when they are back at reasonable prices. Just something to consider. Either way, good luck to everyone.

Not saying GAP isn't needed or warranted in some cases, just that it's another back office money maker bs insurance for the experienced buyer who did their homework.

EXACTLY. Unless one just doesn't like their 4R, IMO it doesn't make sense to sell one 40k vehicle at a premium, only to turn around and buy a different 40K vehicle at a premium. It's like people selling their homes only to have to live in RV's because they can't find another.

Buying a beater, or simply just moving down a bit in vehicle, is the way to go. That's what I'd do. And if one isn't dead set on another Toyota, there are plenty of much lower cost options out there for relatively cheap money, if you don't mind an older vehicle.
