What is this slot (with coins in it) for?

I don't know what that slot is for...

However, it seems either Toyota decided newer owners weren't so bright, or people were complaining...my cupholder inserts don't say 'REMOVE FOR LARGER CUPS' - I figured it out all on my own...

 

I believe that in the 4x4 "knob" versions are longer and made for pens. I had this same question when I joined. Many have!
Why they shortened it is a mystery. Just mold it flat! They are obviously different part #'s.

I'm jealous you're allowed to remove your cup holder sleeve for larger cups. Mine doesn't say that so I'm stuck with smaller cups.

Pretty bad design overall. The lack of proper storage is one of the weak links in this vehicle. Can’t use any of them properly. Doesn’t have any purpose at all.

My AirPods case

 

I use it for change. I'm more curious what the bigger slot nearby is for. Is it a french fry holder? That's what I call it. I also put my CD player there. (No CD player in 2020+)

 

Something to keep in mind is that a cell phone from 2010 would have fit in one of the bins in front, removing half of all storage complaints

 

Just skip the middleman, it's perfect as is.
