V6 or V8 on 2003-2005 4Runner?

I want a newer 4x4 4 runner say a 2003 - 05 runner, What is the better eng the v6 or the v8, And why ????

 

They are both good motors here is my opinion.

V8
More power +
Timing Belt -

V6
Less power -
Timing Chain ++

I would love the power of the V8 but I'm not sure the 4Runner needs it unless you are hauling. Mine accelerates pretty good with the V6. I never drove a V8 version so I can't comment on that.

 

both are excellent motors, v8 has more torque, v6 in the early years has more horsepower, do with that what you will. both have known issues, v8 has some problems with cracking manifolds, v6 has issues with head gaskets in 03-04, however its more of a 1 in 20 issue than every motor. v8 is full time 4x4 and v6 is selectable 2x4 4x4, maybe it matters to you, maybe it doesnt

 

As a V8 owner I really like trouble-free motor especially because I tow a trailer. I just passed 200k a week ago while towing and have had no problems at all. I plan on another 100k and wouldn't hesitate to drive cross-country with it.

No experience with the V6 but also see no reason for me to even consider anything other than what I've had such good experience with.

 

I have a 07 with V6 - has all the power I need. Never towed but carried many, many bags of cement and dirt with no noticeable power loss.
And my wife likes the roar of the motor when she stomps on it when she hits the highway....

 

05 V8 saw a hp/tq bump with addition of VVTi, I love our 05 limited v8. Would never trade it for the v6, not to say the v6 is bad by any means. The v8 does require timing belts every 100k or so, so they're a bit more expensive to maintain but the increased power is worth it IMO. Ours is fully armored with lift and 35's, the v8 doesnt hesitate even with stock gears.
