    Good evening to all,
I'm new to 4runners.com, but have been a 1st Gen Owner for about 22 years. I have an 85 4runner that is original except for the motor, it is a 22re just not the original 22re. I have 3 out of 4 original rims.
The rest of it is original. It's not in great condition, but I do believe it's in fair to good condition. It does need some work, but is a driver. Just wanted to get opinions on whether to fix this 4runner up or maybe just sell. Parts are hard to find to say the least and I'm not even sure what it's worth? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. 20200517_112400.jpg

I'm in need of a donor truck if you're looking to sell, my 22re with 270,000 miles on it went out last week. Great looking truck.

Looks good from here. Are you in a 'rust zone'? If not, you're ahead of the game. The real question is probably this: are you interested in taking your time restoring it? Or would you rather find someone who is?

Most here will say it's worth it to keep and fix what's needed. You don't need to fully restore it to enjoy it. That said, if you sell it it's worth at least 7K pretty much anywhere.

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
IMHO, definitely well worth fixing up. Like people have said, it doesn't have to be restored to all original. There are a ton of aftermarket bits and pieces that will make it run, or drive, as good or better than original. Just a matter of some looking.
There are a lot of recovery yards, as well, that may have the parts you need to completely restore it to original. Again, well worth a little research.

Good luck, whatever you decide. :)

    Thanks for all the responses.
I'm not worried about the motor not being original, as I believe the original motor is long gone, however there are some cosmetics that I would like to fix, and also, if I could find a fourth wheel that would be way cool. Not sure if there are recovery yards in the Central United States, but that would be ideal.
Again thanks for all the help & advice thus far.
I believe I'm going to hang on to my 4runner and try to fix as much as possible and just drive it. ☺

Yep, you're the envy of a lot of folks. Fewer of these available every year. If I ever latched on to one, I'd try to keep is as original as possible. There was one near me a couple of years ago, an '87 that was originally from Oregon with 85k miles, at a dealership of all places. It looked all original, and simply like it had been driven normally all its life. They sold it for almost $14k.

I agree with you keeping it. I love & miss my '87 Supra turbo daily. Nothing compares to the "old school" tech & abilities of the older generations. I know the MKIV was a way better platform but the older Supras are unicorns & extremely fun.
    Ryan.

Have you tried Ebay or craigslist to see if you can find a matching rim? If you can do the work yourself, I would keep it. If not, sell it.
