Oh for sure. My thinking is if she won't be gentle with a new car that costs $30k, I don't see her being gentle with a Lexus just because it costs twice as much. She's one of these people that is always 10 minutes late, always in a hurry. It's so frustrating. I'm pretty much the opposite. 5-10 minutes early and never in a rush unless she makes me late :)

Yeah, never been a fan of Subaru's, especially with their CVT reliability record. With the Bronco, when it first came out that Ford was releasing it, I couldn't wait to see what it was going to be like. I went to New Orleans for work a couple of weeks ago, and drove next to a Bronco Sport, and was QUITE disappointed. The thing is like a lifted go-cart. I was quite surprised at how small it was.

    Cheers,

    Sean

Your wife sounds very similar to my wife.

    Lead foot and always late.

Most of the time i spend in her car is pinned to the back of the seat.

    Drives me nuts!

We’ve had two Outbacks until the wife traded up to a Cayenne S. Never had any issues.

I have gone overlanding with Jeeps, Toyotas, Nissans, Chevys, GMCs, Fords, and even a Pinzgauer or two. Never seen an overlander drive a Subaru. Subaru drivers are typically rock climbers, thrill seekers, and people who use their vehicle to deliver them to "cool experiences" that do not involve the vehicle. And there's nothing wrong with that.

But for sustained, long-distance vehicle-dependent wilderness travel, vehicles like this Subaru have some significant limitations w/r/t the lack of a low-range transfer case, transmission heat build-up, suspension durability, etc.

Yeah, some people build them up to mimic some of what BOF vehicles with low ranges can do, but it's sort of like guys who autocross Civics. You can do it, but why not start with a better platform to begin with??

Wouldn't be caught dead in a Subaru where I live. Dont get me wrong. Great car. But the granola munching eco social justice warrior stigma associated with Subaru owners here in the nw is too much to handle.

Just toss a Glock perfection sticker on it.

I’ll probably buy this when my 2018 Macan goes off warranty.

It lost me at 3,500lb towing capacity; just like the new Bronco.

I am not sure what the Baby Bronco (Bronco Sport from Mexico) tows but the Regular Bronco to come out (made in Michigan) only tows 3,500lbs.

I realize most don't maybe use for towing but I think the 4R is better at 5,000lbs just like the old school frame SUV's of the past. Hopefully Toyota keeps up the towing capacity on the new generation.

With more torque than a 4R, peak torque available at 2000 rpm, a much more aggressive rear axle ratio than a 4R, a steeper low gear ratio than 4R (in 4H), in a vehicle that's a bunch lighter than a 4R I doubt that the lack of a transfer case and low range would be a problem for a whole lot of people that want a vehicle that's off-road capable.

We were considering getting a Bronco Sport at first. So, when one of our local Ford dealerships got a couple of them in we stopped by to take a look...Sadly, neither of us were impressed at all. It makes my Patriot look huge.

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
I got stationed in Yuma, and wound up there for nearly 30 years. Just down I8 from Glamis, and it's fun places. I spent a lot of time out in the mining areas in my 87 4Runner, and even in my 78 Chevy Love, before that. Definitely Loved the 4Runner. Pun intended. :)

I did almost toss a friend out of the back of the Love one day. Got going too fast on a well groomed, gravel, road out to the American Girl mine. Went around a corner, drifted to the outside, and the small berm was enough to lift me up onto two wheels. My friend was looking straight down at the ground going past at 60 MPH. At least I got it back down on all 4 wheels. Didn't flip it. That would have been hard on my friend! He never again rode in the back, though. Most odd.

My kids even loved going out there and bouncing all over the truck as we went around the whole area. They only rode in the 4Runner, though. I learned my lesson! I sure didn't want to toss a kid out the back! Well, sometimes it was tempting, but you know... :notsure:

Lots of fun at the Glamis area in the late 80's through the early 2000's. :D

    Enjoy, all!

    Funny you posted this!

My wife and I ran by the Subaru dealer yesterday for a test drive and trade-in appraisal for her '14 Forester. We were both disappointed after driving the Outback. Suspension was soft, lots of body lean while cornering, and it just felt sluggish with the 2.5L. It drove like a boat. The new Forester however was very nice, and drove like a sports car by comparison. Same powertrain....I guess the Forester must weigh less. The new interior and seats are a huge upgrade from her 2014. I liked it a lot, but she doesn't want the same model....so off to Toyota we went.

Drove a Venza (hybrid), and a RAV4 Hybrid and non-hybrid. We both thought the Toyotas were just nicer all the way around. Since she only drives about 9000 miles per year, I ruled out the hybrid. The regular 2.5L RAV4 gets about 30 mpg average and has GOBS of power for a little 4banger, with 203 HP with an 8 speed slush box. It drives as well or better than the new Forester, and she loves the Lunar color, so I'm thinking cool with me! The non-hybrid RAV4 XLE is the same price as the Outback Premium we were going to buy.

I did some reading on Toyota's 2.5L when I got home. It has both port fuel injection and direct injection (D-4S Induction they call it). That sealed it for me! No carbon fouling issues to worry about.

Very true haha. My younger brother showed up with a crosstrek wearing a tank top, short shorts, flip flops and a man bun in the winter

I'm pretty sure the tank top, shorts, flip flops, and man buns are offered as an actual option package on the Crosstrek.

Now he just needs a heavy RTT that will cause it to ride on its bump stops, and he will have completed the look.

Would be a damn near ideal car if it has an 8-speed automatic or a 6 MT. I’ll stick with my BOF, old-school Runner

    Why can’t I give this 1000 likes? That’s funny.

Ive thought about a pro gun sticker somewhere on the truck, but I don’t like advertising what may be inside. Or inviting someone with a different opinion to express themselves on the door with key art.

But if I had a Suburu and lived up there I’d do it in a heartbeat.

    Definitely
They have their place but I wouldn’t be embarrassed with one keeping up. I’d be worried about having to watch it climb steep and aggressive terrain at speed for enough momentum to reach the top, and risk losing control and rolling or falling off the edge.

I’m sure I could get a Camaro up that hill in the video too. But there’s something to be said about having the right tool for the job.

Not knocking a Suburu at all, but I wouldn’t buy one for what I like to do.
