Tweaked the clutch pedal pushrod on monday. Was having a little trouble getting it to start. Used the cancel switch. NOW it fires right up using the pedal. I feel better about it, just from a safety standpoint. The clutch now starts engaging at just the right height off the floor, too.

While we were in town yesterday, we ran it through a commercial car wash. First time for both of us, and the truck, too! It really looks nice, as well. Nothing like a happy truck! Makes for a happy wife. Happy wife, happy life. Amazing what a simple car wash can do :D

Not only all that, the weather is absolutely gorgeous. Life is good :)

I won an eBay auction for an antique Pflueger Medalist fly reel that will go on a little fiberglass fly rod I have. The rod is a 6' 6" 3 wt and will be used on small streams way up high in the mountains. Best guess is that the reel was manufactured in the late 50's or early 60's, so a few years older than me. I can't wait to load it up and take it fishing!

Got our 20' flagpole set in the front yard. Also, got 3 out of 4 rose bushes set around it. Still need to set the last rose bush, concrete scalloped edgers, and the white gravel around the base.
One of the local high schools made us a metal American flag, the ragged old flag, like in the Johnny Cash song. It's powder coated, and looks incredible. This shop class does amazing things, learning skills without college.
No, it's not up the flagpole. That's just a regular cloth flag. Storm flag size. The metal one will mount on the ramp up to our front door.

The weather was a little cloudy with thunderstorms the other day, but heck, I love thunderstorms. Now, it's back to beautiful again. Life is STILL good.
How long will it last? :notsure: Only the deity of your choice, if any, knows, but me and my lovely wife will enjoy it to the max while it lasts.

    Have fun, all!

Hurt my back at work last Thursday and I went to the chiropractor and got an adjustment, but, there has still been some lingering pain and stiffness that was slowly getting worse, so, I went back in for a follow up appointment today and finally got fully popped back in. I feel so much better finally.

My parents are retiring, they own a successful auto repair business. They are having me move back to where the shop is and are going to start the process of me taking it over. I’m getting a big bonus to help with moving expenses and I’m going to start off as a technician, been one for 10 years FYI. After a year or so I will be manager, get another very generous bonus and be part owner. This is literally my dream to own a shop. I thought I messed up my opportunity to do that because I quit working for them 5 years ago, I guess they want someone there they can trust.

That’s awesome man, I often look at my parents (parent now) and wish they had done something in their life to pass along such as the scenario you laid out. Could also say that sounds like a pretty dreamy reality! Cheers and best of luck!

I wish you the very best of luck with your new (to you) business!

My parents and I haven't spoken in 40+ years now. My mother has passed, so it just leaves my father. A former airline pilot, alcoholic, and of the firm opinion I just want to freeload off him. I got jobs starting at 14, mostly taking old oak trees out of peoples yards. By myself. Then I joined the Corps, made Sgt. in 3 years, not too bad. Got out, and was picked up for a US Customs Aerostat site, so I could take over as lead E-Tech. When Customs lost the contract to Lockheed (do NOT ask me about them!!), they SAID they were getting rid of the lead E-tech slot, so to keep my job, I moved up to Flight Director. Medically retired from there. I guess I am nothing but a freeloader, after all. heh...
My father sold the house I grew up in, which he bought in 70 for $80K, for $2.5 Million. I won't ever see a penny of it, either. My middle daughter will if she lives that long. She was a Marine, too, and had some medical problems when she came back from Iraq. Major medical problems. Can you say illegal medical experiments by the government, folks?

I just can NOT believe that drunk SOB is STILL alive. I have a sick feeling my daughter's sons will get the money. I just hope *I* live long enough to see that drunk in the ground. I suspect he's holding out of spite, now.

On the bright side, the weather has been fantastic here in Oregon, lately, and the local fire crews have been Johnny-on-the-spot with the brush fires this year. Only 1 fire got a little out of hand, so far, 650 acres, but they lined and controlled in about a week. Great work. People are a LOT more paranoid around here this year, and with good reason, after the major forest fire we had last year. There have been more than a few held at gun point by land owners for trying to start fires. Most were nothing more than campers, that ignored the no burning rules in place this year. Bad, or stupid, enough. There have been a few, though, caught with gas cans, flares, and so on. Can you say arsonists, ladies and gentlemen? Just like we had last year.

Never a dull moment, these days I guess.
May you all, ALL, have wonderful, enjoyable, summers!

Thanks man. I am lucky, that’s for sure and I won’t forget that. My parents struggled so I can have something. Don’t get me wrong though, I’m still going to work hard and make sure that they have a great retirement

Thanks man. I’m so sorry about your daughter. I’m sorry about your father too, not necessarily for your father, I guess for how you feel towards him. It takes a lot of pain to feel that way. Mine is also an alcoholic, in recovery though, thank god. So I somewhat understand how it can be and what they can do or say when in that state of mind. I had to quit because of his addiction. We didn’t talk for a while. It took a lot for me to get over my anger towards him, a lifetime of anger from him fucking up and doing stupid shit. Fortunately he had been doing really good since then. At the end of the day he’s my dad and I still love him. Hating someone is definitely easier than loving them especially if they are addicts. I’m not going to tell you to forgive and forget. Not going to tell you to talk to him either. I hope that you’ll at least get to say goodbye when his time comes.
On a more positive note, I’m glad the wildfire season hasn’t been bad for you. I also wish you an enjoyable wonderful summer.

finished.jpg My lovely wife and I picked up a sign we had commissioned yesterday. It is a really nice, black powder-coated, metal rectangle, cut out with a plasma cutter to resemble an American Flag, with all the service's emblems cut out of the striped area.
It was made by, get this, one of the local high school's metal shops! We told them the general idea of what we wanted, and they designed it, cut it out, and powder coated it. We're thoroughly impressed with these kids. Oh, the cost? A whopping $60.00 for the sheet of metal. The rest was free!
It's awesome to see them learning a worthwhile trade! Something other than Underwater Basket Weaving, or Philosophy. They will have a job waiting for them in this town when they graduate, that's certain. A well paying job, at that.

I'll get a picture up as soon as we get one. We want to set it up at the flag pole we have in the front yard before we put a picture up, but I think you'll all like it. All things being equal, it should be later today.

Got to visit with my daughter and her hubby last week. First visit with them since December 2019. They came in from Portland OR, and it was a great time. They'll be back for the International Hot Air Balloon event in October, yahoo!

I had my daughter and her family visit for a week - they left yesterday. I haven't seen them since Thanksgiving so it was great visit especially seeing my 3 year old grandson. They live 8.5 hrs away so it's not a short hop. She is also going to have another kid around Thanksgivings so I will be making the trip to them around that time. That will make 3 grandchildren between my 2 daughters.

I have a couple of those. I live in Akron where Pfleuger was headquartered (before sold off to China). My father-in-law (almost - passed away before he married my MIL) was a supervisor at Pfleugers so I got most of his old stuff. I was also taught to tie flies by my next door neighbor when I was a kid. She was a tier for Pfleugers.
They are nice simple reels. Hope you have fun with it and catch some biggins.

I have 8 grandkids from 3 daughters. Most of them are either IN the services, or close to being old enough. Heck, they all live far away from me, and we don't communicate a lot, so for all I know, I may have GREAT-grandkids by now.

We got our 99 4Runner back from all the work been done on it of late. My mechanic replaced the knock sensors, but used aftermarket, Napa jobs. I TOLD him to use OEM, but he was "trying to save me some money". Well, he paid the price. The new ones tripped the CEL, so he bought OEM's and had to replace them at his own cost. IE: free to me! He garuntees his work.
He also replaced the front pads and rotors, so new front brakes! Yaaayyy!

Well, when we picked up the truck from him the first time, we had to take it to the stealership. It had slightly odd scent coming off the engine when we got it to the dealership, but I wrote it off as some cleaner of some sort my mechanic had used More on that later...

It needed new rear axle seals, and brakes. It was going to take a couple weeks to get the parts, and then fit into their schedule. OK. Well, they got the wrong seals the first time. Wait a couple more weeks. They got the right ones, finally, and got the work done, finally. Now we have brand new rear brakes. Shoes, springs, everything. AND axle seals. It really STOPS when I touch the brake pedal :D

I drove the truck home, and when I got out, was suddenly able to figure out the odd scent easily. It was fuel! Yikes! I took it back to my mechanic, and when I got there, HE could easily identify it. Since HE worked on it before the fuel leak, he had to fix it. It turned out that when he worked on it before, replacing the knock sensors, he had nicked one of the injector seals, and it just got worse and worse. He replaced that seal set on that injector, and lo and behold, no more smell. Thank goodness no fire happened.

So, it's sitting in the driveway, happy and healthy once again! My lovely wife is ecstatic, too. She's the one that found, negotiated for, and bought this truck. First ever time she'd done so, too. She's understandably very proud of "her" tuck :) Everyone she talked to said she stole it, for $5K from a dealer. Not too bad for a manual truck, either. Got it from a dealer in Denver, and there was another, almost identical, across town, for a mere $12K. These trucks just keep getting more and more expensive, especially manuals. People WANT these old Toy's!

Yesterday was busy as heck, but a very, very good day.
    Have fun, all!

Three Pfluegers and a Martin. Left to Right: 1494, 1492, Martin 63, 1494. I've got a NIB spare spool for the 1492, and the box and paper for one of the 1494's.

I never new “D” rings were so heavy. Maybe put on on a trailer-hitch mount.
