I remember driving across country in this when I was 6 years old and numerous camping, hiking and skiing trips around Washington state. 384k miles and still going strong. Engine was rebuilt around 200k I believe. Think I want to lift it a little and maybe bigger tires. What do you guys think?F2130F91-45D1-42AA-8623-DEFBD2366B28.jpg

Wow that looks so clean! I used to have a kinda beat up 87 4runner. Wish I kept it. Slow as heck but so much fun to drive. Nothing can replicate it for me. Congrats on the new ride!

well I haven’t decided if I’m going to do that. It is just to get around town and save gas and sentimental. If I did that it would strictly be cosmetic. I’m not going to tear it up. I’m leaning towards just the tires and no lift

I agree ^^ don't lift it. You could maybe go with one size bigger tire and not hurt anything. Here in Florida everyone has used and abused these trucks to where there are very few original looking examples left. Nice little time capsule you have there actually.

If you upgrade to OME suspension then you get a reasonable lift once all settled.

My opinion, leave it as is. It's sentimental to you for good reason. No reason to mod it just for aesthetics when you have so many memories of time spent with your father in that vehicle.

Repeat the cycle with your own kids. I'm sure your dad got it wherever it needed to go.

Exactly what I was about to recommend! Good thinking!
I had a nice '86 and it was awsome!...even stock. Would love to have another, especially in as good condition as yours. That 22R motor is bullet proof, as long as you never overheat that alluminum head. Make sure the timing chain is up to date as well!...You've got a Gem!

Congratulations and Looks like your Dad enjoyed every moment owning & utilizing it for what it was designed for …I owned a 1989 4R4WD Deluxe Model myself and regret selling it … I did a small lift with American Racing Aluminum Bullet Wheels, 32 BFG’s, Pre-Runner Front Bumper, old school KC Daylighters w/a smile and small tube rock sliders… it was a fun & great vehicle!
Not my pic or 4R but definitely similar.

I'm with the stockers - I'd keep it stock if it were me. In fact, I might even look for OEM wheels. That's a very nice '88 you have. My first 4Runner was a brand new 1988 that I traded a 1984 Supra on. Two great vehicles right there, and I'd buy again if good examples came available. And yes, 22R-E all day long.
