Today I completed an upgrade to my suspension. I waited and waited for the 5100s to come back on the market but finally decided to try the Eibach Pro Truck Series shocks, struts and springs. No regrets! They work just fine. I spent a couple of days replacing the front struts/springs (between naps) using a $32 spring compressor tool from Harbor Freight. Believe it or not - it did the job using a 1/4" drive Hitachi impact driver to compress the springs (a little at a time). I rested two days then did the rear springs & shocks in a couple of hours.

If I can do this at 77yo - you can to! One big help is having a 1/2" drive cordless impact - what a time saver that was!

It's not how fast we get there that's important these days. Getting there...means so much more.

    Well done

Well done! I thought I was ambitious at 65...just curious - do you have KDSS? And, was this the type of spring compressor you used?

    Congrats!

That's awesome you tackled the job at 77 years old!

I hope I can say the same one day.

No KDSS. This is the spring compressor tool I used: Never having done this before (changing out Macpherson strut springs), you will get a chuckle out of this, I dawned my full face bike helmet compressing the first strut spring. After the first one went successfully, and now an old hand at it, I did the rest bare faced and proud :muscleflexing:...

Thanks for your positive comments. We all pretty much know what happens if we don't continue staying active in our "golden years".

Now I'm really impressed. Having used that type of spring compressor before, I wouldn't have attempted the job using that. Kudos to you for tackling this install yourself.

Probably would have hurt myself 20 years ago due to being so much "smarter" then with a touch of bravado. Now that I'm "old & dumb" and possessing a lot more patience, it's amazing what can be accomplished if ya just take the time to figure things out beforehand and approach the project methodically - and keeping instant death in mind.... LOL
