Welcome! Long time Toyota owner but bought the wife a 4Runner this month. Very familiar with lifts. But 4Runners are a new lane for me.

That said, immerse yourself in here for a few days...weeks. Visit some vender sites and look at what’s available. Watch some YouTube videos about what looks good.

And know what you want to do in you vehicle and build to suit.

Yes of course. And there are plenty enough systems to choose from. Just have to decide what exactly you want and what your personnal goal is.
Myself I just got into a brand new '21 TRD PRO. I really don't want to swap out anything with that FOX tuned suspension. So there is a guy here on the forum, Chris. He is a good guy and he distributes spacer kits for anyone who can choose to go this route, CORNFED Spacer kits. In fact mine just showed up in the mail today, 2" front, 1.5" rear for a level lift.
Chris is here... Check out this solution before deciding, really!!

It’s an expensive vehicle that can perform amazingly off road.

    Don’t get a cheap lift.

out of curiosity, why not get the eibach pro kit? It’s springs and not pucks. Provides a better ride and doesn’t take away from the fox suspension.

Money. I can splurge later on, or not, but I do not need to worry for now. I think I mostly for now just look forward to the look.

Agreed, you already have great shocks. If you want lift, new springs would be the better of the two. I have a very hard time recommending spacers after years of lifting vehicles. That said, if you like the ride, and the fact that the pro is already +1” from the factory. A small 1”spacer isn’t going to kill ya. You bought the PRO for a reason and most do it for the suspension. I went ORP because I wanted to scrap the stock setup and do it my way. I run Fox shocks on my taco and love them.

My biggest issues are with lift blocks on leaf spring trucks (axle wrap city) and huge spacers like 2” and up.

And I do agree, get all the points. I understand Cornfed is a excellent choice for lift spacers, though. Don’t worry, the time will come when I do want to go with springs, it just does not need to be yet, that is all, I have other things to finish first, sliders, some armor, bumper/winch, etc.

Once you get all that on there, you’ll need springs. Lol! Have fun with it either way. You going to love decking it out.

For affordable options I would look a Eibach or Bilstein. Both make quality options for our 4runners that are inexpensive and perform well. I'm on Bilstein 6112's in front and 5100's in back and have no complaints or issues after about 25K miles.

It's worth considering what you're going to do with your 4Runner and other modifications and weight you're going to add. Most manufacturers have multiple spring rate options to compensate for extra weight.

    Welcome to the forum!

you’re obviously limiting the performance of the 4runner with the Bilsteins.

    Haha! Ok.

Not everyone needs Kings. Plenty of guys are off-roading on Bilsteins and Eibachs.

For high speed stuff, you are better off with high end shocks. For the majority of the people here, they're overkill.

I may have mentioned earlier that my ability to detect sarcasm online is pretty terrible.

I was almost going to ask, too. :D

I have actually been pretty impressed with the Billies. They are pretty good for what I do. Fast whoops seem to be the weakness so far, which I know Kings are great for.

I have heard of leakage issues with 5160's. Did you experience that? I went 5100 due to that. And, I didn't plan on doing high speed stuff, so reservoirs seemed unnecessary.

    Lots of ideas and suggestions.

I'm sure glad that I'm not trying to decide what would be best for my 4Runner suspension.

The amount of choices and opinions are overwhelming.

This is like discussing politics or religion.

There aren’t really that many choices.

Suspension lift fall into a few categories.

Cheap: you probably shouldn’t be installing these on an expensive new vehicle.

Budget: inexpensive, will do the job, may not ride like you want.

Mid range: will do 95% what you want it to do and does not ruin the ride quality.

Performance: ridiculously expensive, but if you use it a lot off road, will save you having to rebuild and replace components later on.

If you are paying somebody else to install a cheap shit suspension lift and trying to save money, you will find that your vehicle may not ride as good as you did before you lifted it, you may have trouble aligning it, and ultimately you took something that worked just fine and now it rides and handles like shit and can’t be aligned properly.

Sometimes it’s best to spend money at the front, or you’re going to wind up replacing components later anyway.

Because of the platform sharing, 4Runners are actually pretty difficult to lift properly. You have to get new wheels or spacers if you don’t want interference from bigger tires, you have to chop the body mounts if you don’t want rub.

You have to install new upper control arms if you want to properly aligned them.

Or you can install a 2” spacer lift or a Rough Country kit and wonder why your 42,000 dollar truck rides like you’re on pogo sticks.

This stuff is confusing, and even more so because you constantly have people spreading false information as fact. Such as.. springs will not deteriorate the TRD Pro FOX Suspension. lol. That is FALSE. The stocks are designed with multiple zones and lifting the truck via springs takes your normal shock motion out of the most appropriate zones. Does it really matter and is it "noticeable?" Probably not. But technically, and factually, you are diminishing their performance. On the other hand, a small spacer lift, while also not typically the best approach, will actually LEAVE your nice FOX shocks operating in the correct zone 100%.. so one could easily argue that the spacers are a BETTER solution for slight lift on the TRD Pro. I used to hate on spacers too, but they have their place.

To the OP: I suggest you check out my thread and read it all "5th Generation 4Runner Suspension Options Thread." There is a lot of insight there from both myself as well as others, as well as some pics.

    Cheers.
