On my other vehicle, the manual says to put some fuel additive around 7,500 miles like Techron... how about our 4Runners?

I use a product called RXP. I've used it in many vehicles. Not sure it does much, but all my vehicles always run and idle nice.

    No, I don't.

It was my understanding that fuel already has additives.

Chevron still advises to use a bottle of Techron even if you use their gasoline: https://youtu.be/5wH0Nn0IrSg

Having said that, I used to use fuel additive periodically in my other cars.

Not sure if it made a difference though. Kinda like taking vitamins,
The main thing you notice is your wallet is lighter.

Certainly doesn't hurt as long as you pick a product that is compatible with modern fuel injection systems.

I haven't done it but cleaning the throttle body and MAF sensor is recommended by Toyota I believe, could be wrong about that.

I put over 260,000 miles on my 97 Tacoma and it never had the throttle body, MAF sensor or injectors cleaned or replaced.

Just keep all the fluids changed per Toyota recommendations and replaced parts as needed, e.g. Radiator speedo cable, stuff like that.

I was told by my doctor that he doesn’t know a single medical professional that takes vitamin supplements.
Likewise every mechanic I know says the same about additives of any kind. It’s all snake oil.

Cleaning the MAF and throttle body is a very easy diy.

Snake oil... Of course Chevron recommends using theirs along with their gas would you expect them to manufacture it and tell people it's not needed?

I run the big bottle of Techron through a tank once a year. Been doing so for many years on my cars, have never had any fuel-related issues due to dirtiness or carbon. I do drive daily and get them warm.

Eh, I'll throw a bottle of seafoam in the kids' older Tacomas once in a while when it's 1/2 price at Wally World. Not sure it does anything but what the heck.

I do Techron from time to time on all my cars. 5 or 10K intervals. Or 15k. Or wtvr. Not religious about it. Haven't yet on my Runner, which is now at 8k miles, but have been meaning to sooner or later. As others have noted, like a daily multivitamin it may help and prob doesn't hurt (seriously, a lot of people are low on some things like vitamin D, and that can cause serious health issues, so it's not all a waste of money).

I'm more serious about running Top Tier gas, very rarely get the off brand stuff. And if I could find it I'd get the stuff without ethanol.

No. Port injection is self cleaning.

I’ve seen them take these engines apart at 150k miles and they’re spotless.
