I bought this ride, seeing this, I didnt let it bother me. I will be trying to seal it or repair it soon.

Anyones thoughts on what may have caused this. Im thinking maybe the moonroof drain could do this, or maybe a tree limb smacked it...

Maybe someone has seen this before.

is the paint flaking? Or is the actual sheet metal damaged?

That was my thought too. Put a magnet on it and see if it sticks.

Well here is a vid. It seems to act the same on both driver and passenger. Less magnetic over the same area on both sides. But it does not look to be repainted, this vehicle seemed quite stock in all ways. Can anyone else take a magnet to that same spot and see if it is a little less magnetic there too. Is this bondo...from the factory?

dealers will have small damage fixed on new cars and sell them with no documentation of the repairs sometimes. Usually just door dings and bumpers getting scratches but you never know.

You gotta fix it anyway, pull a bit out of it. With your help or not, it will come out anyway. Budget for it and get it done. The more you wait, the worse the damage.
It both sides same spot, definitely something happened hard enough.
The dealer must disclose these, at least in Ontario, above a certain value. That ain’t a simple bump.

I have no clue what happened but after watching the video I think it would be fun just to play with the magnet like that. :)

You seem to have a 4th gen...can you take a magnet to the same spot and let me know if it is less magnetic right there?

I just checked and there is no difference on mine. I suspect that yours had some roof damage at some point and the roof was replaced. That point looks like a logical place to connect a used roof and of course there would have to be some bondo at the joint. However I'm not an auto body man so I could be very wrong. I would suggest trying your magnet at the A pillar and C pillar and see what happens. If I'm right about the roof it would have been attached at those points too. Hope that helps.

Sorry this has happened but I second the opinion to fix asap. it will just get worse. When you begin you will quickly know if this is a body repair. Once you put a sander to it you will know right away. If it use you have a legal case for failure to disclose prior damage. A body shop could confirm and repair easily. Best of luck.

Crappy repair job from previous damage. See this before. Bondo separates, usually due to rust. You're going to have to fix it very soon and it's not going to be cheap. Sucks man. I feel for you.
