So this summer my 6 year old and I want drive my new Pro out west. First Ophir pass east to west and Imogene west to east. Is there a site to hook up with others to convoy over together for safety? Or do I follow the tourist truck cause I’m a noob? please don’t troll me. I really want to use my 4 Runner for what is made for. Then I’ll go through Utah and SW from there. Thanks folks

if you're looking to do a "warm up" run - my son and I (and possibly a couple more cars) will be going to Uwharrie on the weekend of 17th, and then again 24APR. Its a bit of a hike up north for you but it is a very nice place to ride and camp. Although, do expect to slide the belly on some rocks without a lift depending on the trails you ride.

Man, I spend more time on ADV than here! OP, get in touch with Rising Sun 4x4 club here in Denver. They are a Toyota based club that does a lot of trails once the snow melts, and some in the snow too. They are a great group of people, though I haven't been a member for a long time. RS is in the middle of Cruise Moab this week, but someone should reply to you. They have a pretty good forum too...

Ha! I figured there's a few ADV inmates here. I'm new to the 4Runner world and am slowly heading down the rabbit hole over here and there's a great knowledge base, thanks all!

While you're in the Ouray area, I recommend checking out the Yankee Boy Basin trail. It's an out and back trail, not difficult, and has some awesome views. One of my favorites. I've attached a couple of my pics from a July trip a couple of years ago.

The Old Hundred Mine Tour, near Silverton is a fun and family friendly deal that I bet your and your son would enjoy too. My family and I did.

Maggie's Kitchen in downtown Ouray is a good spot for lunch or dinner.

If you head into nearby Durango, the mountain coaster and alpine slide at the Purgatory ski resort are awesome. Great food at Steamworks Brewing Company in downtown Durango.

The steam train between Durango and Silverton is a good way to spend a day, see some incredible views, and a cool experience. Be sure to book ahead of time, and preferably on the right hand side of an open gondola car. I suggest taking the train up to Silverton, and the bus option back to Durango. Hit Rocky Mountain Funnel Cakes in Silverton for a treat.

Another ADV inmate here, great site.

OP, good on you for trying out a new adventure with your son and getting out there with your 4R. With everything, know your limits, take your time, and enjoy it! Good luck.
