    Hey everybody,

I just joined the forum. I don't own a 4runner, yet. I have an 88 GMC 2500, my wife has a 2015 RAV4. We love the RAV and I need a used suv like vehicle. I would gravitate to the 4 runner just because I've always wanted one but when I go to the stealership to check them out I feel cramped - the ceiling is low enough that my hair kind of touches it. Otherwise it is my dream vehicle.
I'm only 6'0", I cannot fathom that I can't lower the seat enough to not feel cramped but both salesmen told me that's the way the seats are. I fit great in the rav as well as a tundra I've test driven.
I'm pretty sure if I could find a 4runner without a sunroof it would not be an issue.
I guess my question is : has anyone else had this problem or am I just nuts? Should I just forget about 4runners and focus on highlanders or sequoias?

    Thanks.

Stop driving like a grandpa with the chair straight up and your chest 2" away from the steering wheel.

But honestly Highlander isn't that might taller. I feel just as close to the roof as my 4R.

The first time I drove one I had the same problem.

A couple years later when I bought one, with a sunroof, it wasn’t an issue. Guess I just adjusted the seat to my comfort. I’m 6’1

If you can fit comfortably in the RAV then you can easily fit in the $Runner.
I had a similar issue going from a Ford Edge to the 4R.
Seemed tighter but I found there is plenty of variability in the seat adjustments. I am 5'10.

I’m 6’2” and I have 0 problems fitting and mine has a sun roof. I lower the seat all the way, and I don’t think I could wear a Stetson while driving though. Actually, I don’t own a Stetson, but just guessing. But hey, everyone has a different body shape, so just because someone else fits doesn’t mean you will too.

I'm 6'3" and also have no issue getting a comfortable position with the seat. Adjusted to my liking, not trying to avoid my head touching, I have about 2" of space between my head and the roof. Having the limited I also have the sunroof.

Am 6’4 and don’t have an issue either. With a hat loosely on the top of my head it’ll hit the roof or if is sit completely vertical with the seat back. But I don’t sit that way and wearing hats that way went out of style is ‘86 so all is well...

now we need someone who’s 6’5 to chime in to keep the pattern here

I have seen posts where people refused to get a sunroof due to it lowering the point of contact. See what you think if you can find one without the sun/moon roof...

I'm 6'6" and 57 yrs old, so comfort is a big deal to me. I have a 5th gen Limited with a Sunroof and a 4th gen without. The Sunroof of the 5th gen definitely has less head room, but with the 8 way adjustable electric seat in the LE, I can get quite comfortable and have eliminated any clearance issues. The 8 way has the option of lowering the rear of the seat to help with head room. I guess for someone shorter in the 5th gen, the ideal option would be finding one without the Sunroof, that has an electric seat. Then you could probably do jumping jacks in there. I think the non power seats have a manual height adjustment these days don't they?

Also of note, the 8 way electric really helps for fatigue on long hauls over a few hours. I've driven the 5th gen on multiple trips out of state, the most recent being last Christmas from Central Fla to Phoenix by myself averaging 10 to 12 hrs a day for 3 days and the same on the return. Now in my 03' 4th gen, the older design and the wear of the seat in general, I really feel the fatigue setting in after a few hours. So stopping and stretching has to be done more frequently, but that's not really a fair comparison because of the age of the seat.
    Welcome and Good Luck!

@ForRun LMAO well judging by the driver side front corner of that Audi, the visibility factor hasn't has been fully tested.

OP here, Wow, I had no idea this forum would be so full of comedians. Yuck it up boys...
Well, I stopped by the stealerhip yesterday and sat in one again, with electric seats and sunroof. Verdict is - the sunroof drops the ceiling a bit, the left side of my noggin can make contact with the ceiling, if I try to make it. I'm only 6'0" but my wife tells me I have a "long torso". Pretty sure it's me being fussy and I'm not an actual physical anomaly - for whatever reason it just bugs me. I'm going to look for a used 4runner without a sunroof therefore!
Thanks for all the input guys, I appreciate it. I will have many further questions.

No worries OP! Glad your getting it sorted out and sorry about trashing up your thread. It's really just two of us, so what is that statistically since that seems to be a popular subject these days. Rounding down to 14,700 members, 2 members would be 0.013605%. There's always a couple of bad actors that ruin it for everyone else. Please don't hold the rest of the forum responsible for our stupid actions. Thank you for your patience and hope you find the T4R your looking for out there.

Did you try lowering the seat? I'm 5-10 and have a sun roof and have 5 to 5" to the roof. I've got the seat raised up so could get more

I'm 6'4 and I had to get a 4runner without a sunroof. I could never find a seat position that didnt allow my head to hit the sides of the sunroof. No issues without the roof though.

but we both roll with the seat laid back pretty good too.

Haha! I came for the question, I stayed for the comedy! Just wondering if anybody has ever heard of the passenger seat being able to change position up and down and not just front to back. My driver seat is fine but the passenger seat is too high for my husband and he’s only 6 foot. Do they have an option like this on any of the 4Runners? Are they able to swap out seats if they do have that option? Or is it only the drivers seat that has the height adjustment?

Your wife was right, everybody else is mistaken. The real measurement is from your seat to the top of your head, NOT your total height. A 6' 5" person who fits fine is all legs and no body. Long torso is the culprit, and they don't play nicely with the 4th Gen 4Runner. I have the same issue and I'm only 5' 11".

Looks like I'm coming late to the party! I am 6 feet 7 inches and drive a 2007 Sienna, which I planned on owning another 60,000 miles.
Over the last year in Shelter In Place, My two boys had their growth spurt and one is my size, the other is an inch shorter (at 14 years old). We went out for a drive in the Sienna for the first time in a year and they don't fit in the back seat any more!!
I am thinking about a 4Runner or a Highlander. How is the room in the second row of these vehicles?

Second row seating is high. Lots of room if you’re 6’2” or under though. For your specific situation you’d need a test drive for sure.

I’m in the same boat as this last commenter. I’m 6’7” with a 14 year old and he have a highlander which worked great while he was 6’ but now he is 6’4” and I’m think a 4r would be better if I can get a shop to put one of the back seats on rails like the 3rd row 4Rs have.
