You need the whole exhaust from cat back the Trd Pro has 3 bolts at the bend over at the resantor in your picture #18 that attaches it together where as the OEM has only 2, you can't mix and match unless welding

Who cares? This never shows everything anyway.
It looks like that's probably the stock stuff, so you'd need 11 and 16 for sure. Just in case, grab an extra 12 just in case. I put my TRD exhaust on my SR5 about half a year after getting it though with reduced mileage due to covid, and I was able to reuse the gasket that is 12, but better safe than sorry. You may also need to pick up a 17 and a few 18s depending on what you're getting. My TRD exhaust was a kit and came with the equivalents of those parts, but you might not get that 17 gasket and the 18 bolts. It looks like the nuts are welded to the pipe in that diagram, so you'll probably not have to worry about nuts. I know reusing the welded on nuts for 13 and 14 is how it goes, and you'll be reusing 13 and 14 anyway since you already have them. Just make sure you get them tight enough when you put them on or you'll end up losing them like me and my first time exhaust change newbie self last summer.

I don't think I posted in this topic before the one right above, but I've had my TRD exhaust installed since last August, and it's been fine. The sound isn't bad, and it's silent most of the time. I'm not getting a drone that bugs me all the time. If I'm getting up to speed or going uphill, then it makes more noise, but it's fine. It also alerts morons who aren't looking both ways before crossing the road that you're coming since they can hear it before they see you.

Piston engines are basically air pumps. The point of a tuned performance cat-back exhaust system is less restriction to the exhaust flow, not the sound. Does the huge OEM muffler restrict the exhaust flow?

Has anyone worked with a dealer to make this swap? I have a 2021 TRD Pro and I contacted my dealer today regarding installation of an OEM non-TRD Pro exhaust and they indicated it would be several thousand dollars due to the price of the parts. I'm curious if anyone has done this and what they paid/were quoted?

    Thanks,

Lmao they're trying to fuck you. All 5th gen exhausts are the same so any stock exhaust will fit perfectly with no extra parts needed.

Thanks, but has anyone actually purchased the OEM exhaust? I have the TRD Pro exhaust already that I want to remove, but would need to purchase a stock exhaust. That's where the quote is coming in high; for the parts.

Thanks everyone for your help thus far. To get rid of the drone sound, do you just need to replace the muffler and tailpipe and not the entire exhaust?

Dalez40, did you do your own install or have the dealer do it?

    Thanks,

Yup, you don’t need the entire exhaust. Where are you located? I’m sure there is someone out there that might want to swap exhausts with you.

The Trd muffler is only two pieces, muffler and tail pipe.

so yes you need to replace these parts if you want to get rid of the loud exhaust

    Hi all,

I wanted to share an update in hopes that it will save others time in the future. I went to two local Toyota dealers (dealer I purchased from is ~400 miles away) and neither would install the the standard (non TRD) muffler and tailpipe on my 21 TRDPRO. They agreed that logically it made sense and that the non-TRD parts would fit, but that they would not perform the work because when my VIN is entered it pulls up replacement/repair parts for the truck which would be TRD exhaust as opposed to stock exhaust and that “Toyota” would not approve putting “non-factory” repair or replacement parts on the vehicle.

I drove 2 miles down the road to an auto body shop that will buy the non-TRD muffler, tailpipe, gaskets and exhaust tip from Toyota and perform the install…...

    All,

Yesterday I had the Pro exhaust swapped to the standard exhaust and I couldn’t be happier. The total cost was roughly $1100, but worth every penny to me.

Thank you to the previous posters that helped me figure this out.

    Don't they like money?

Also, $1,100 to swap to the standard exhaust? Holy shit. My TRD exhaust cost $620 for the parts alone. I can't imagine the standard exhaust costing much more, if any more at all. $500 labor to do a catback? I'm in the wrong line of work.

    Hey Gamma Ray,

The breakdown on the parts was:

    Muffler 540
    Tail pipe 283
    Gasket 18.60
    Bolt 2.76
    Blk tip 79.0

I purchased the parts from Toyota dealer. The labor charge was 1 hour at $125.00. Curious the discrepancy on price in mine and yours.

    Morning Bomtest,

Curious the type of elevation you live in? On a flat road I didn’t mind the sound so much, but in the area I live in there are frequent elevation changes and the truck would drop a gear and that’s when it bothered me more.

I ask because when I first switched from my old 4Runner to the Pro and started reading online, it seemed there was a correlation in how people felt about the exhaust and the area of the country they live in.

    Thx,

I live at sea level right now, in Southern California... but I bought my Pro in Minot, North Dakota. I then went on a road trip through North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Nevada and California. I loved the exhaust sound through that whole trip and all those different elevations, and I love it every time I step on the gas. We are moving to Steamboat Springs CO next year and I bought the Pro in anticipation of that move...

I have to admit that my previous car was an Audi RS3, which is known for it's throaty exhaust sounds and pops and cracks on deceleration... The first time I heard the Audi start up, I knew I had to have it. I didn't buy the Pro for the exhaust sound, but I'd be disappointed if it wasn't there.

Sick! I got rid of my B7 S4 but boy did I love the sound of that thing especially at start up. The sound of the TRD exhaust is music to my ears, but I love the throttle response that came with it.

I'm in a similar boat. '21 ORP came spec'd with the Pro exhaust. I spend a lot of time on the highway and on the phone. I've already committed to installing sound proofing. I like the side exit of the exhaust. I hate the drone. Is there an aftermarket cat-back that will allow me to keep the Pro exhaust routing but won't add additional noise? Or at least minimize the noise compared to the OEM Pro? Magnaflow? Other?
