5k oil change

    Gotcha. You might check with Fumoto. I think they recently came out with a new model with a larger orifice that drains faster. F-133N is the newer style.

    Bilstein 5100's, AR wheels, 275 70 17 Cooper AT3, Airlift bags, Powerstop brakes/rotors, 12voltsolutions remote start, tinted windows.
    I use Amsoil in 4Runner & Tundra with Toyota TRD filters. Could I do it cheaper....Yep. But peace of mind for me and I change at 5000 miles. I can't let myself wait for 7500 or 10,000 miles.

    We made the mistake of actually having the first oil change at 10K, the dealer recommended and free. before the second oil change, I noticed the oil very dark, actually black in color. after the second free oil change. We had to pay for the extra oil change at 5k after the second oil change. After our last oil change I have been changing the oil myself, takes less than 30 minutes biggest pain is removing the front lower armor and stupid plastic piece. Also, the fumoto valve makes everything so easy.

    The dealer also uses the cheapest 0-20w oil they can get their hands on, my particular toyo dealer used Pennzoil.

    Note: as someone posted here, I use Toyota branded oil. From what I hear they use their own additive pack. I don't think anyone should go with the 10k oil change on what they recommend. I tried arguing with the service manager according to the manual my truck is in the severe environment and would require a shorter interval. They didn't care, toyota only pays for 10k oil change interval.

    Good for you, doing your own oil changes. If gives you a sense of accomplishment and the opportunity to crawl under and check things out. I actually let the dealer do each 5000 mile “service” and they goofed something up each time. Now I do everything myself.
    Don’t forget to lube the drive shaft zerks, the dealers don’t regularly do that.

    Any clue if the fumoto needs to be torqued or just hand tighten?

    I believe it has a torque spec on it. I’ve had mine too long to remember

    they make something called a crow foot wrench for a torque wrench. 15 lbs for the fumoto. Hand tighten will do for me. I'm not buying more tools

    A zerk fitting is a metal fitting that is attached to a part that requires periodic lubrication - typically with grease. On one end it is threaded with a hex portion that accepts a wrench. The other end is ball shaped, and has a hole with a ball bearing and spring pressed in. A grease gun is a specialty tool used to inject grease into the zerk fitting. The ball bearing/spring arrangement allows grease to flow into the fitting but not out.
