my experience, that is. So, I pre booked a ride last night. Pick up time 10A.M. this morn.

At 7:50 A.M. I get an alert that the driver, Paul, is 7 minutes out. Call him and explained the pre booking, and time set for pick up. He kindly said no problem, that he would cancel and there would not be a charge. Great..thanks.

9:40 A.M. message from Alex. He was 17 minutes and 37 seconds out. Cool!

Alex shows up on time and we begin the journey. Nice fellow from Australia. Just a few year my junior.

Now, we're three minutes out from my place and another Uber driver notice comes through. It's some other dude that's gonna pick me up. I message him that I'm in an Uber in route to the destination. He calls, we chat, and that's that.

Less than 10 miles away from home and I get two more notifications. Then another and another and yet another........and on this went until we(Alex) and I were near 2/3rds through the trip.

We counted no fewer than 8 notices. All the time my phone is exploding with notifications from my Credit Union that my C/C is being tapped by Uber. For lack of a better term.

Ridiculous, and hilariously funny at the same time.

Oh, Alex says they're currently making changes in their system. Ha!

That's all.........ya would have had to of been there to appreciate it.

    Will I Uber again.........

It sounds like they're having some difficulties.

I have used them a few times. I took one to a concert, pre-booked. It was smooth sailing. I requested a ride home afterward and a driver was there in a few minutes.

I hope they get their bugs worked out.

Am sure they will. On a brighter note. A couple of the guys at the dealership have 4Runners and use them. They called and introduced me to the fellow who does their wrenching a customization work, they rate his work at 10+, so he's a lock. And he's only 100 miles from here(that's close)when ya live in "The Skillet".

Nice! 100 miles is nothing if you enjoy driving. Especially when you're excited about the destination!

Yep, well at least I can...

Sounds like a taxi service to me.
Except in this case (Alex) sounds like the cool cab drivers around base, some (not all) cab drivers.
Didnt turn the tick pressed clock puncher thingy (taxi meter) when he picked you up. probably on purpose why?... repeat business;).
Had he told Uber you was picked up sooner notifications should have stopped.

(maybe that's what he ment by making changes). But that's neither here or there.

In this case tho, Uber I think is the taxi service but with Uber it works different. (Dont quote me but...)
Something about drivers set their proces or some stuff like that.

Sound like a driver Auction to me.

(Does) this make me a old man or young?....
Rephrase old timer or Millennial lol

    I've used Uber many times.

Only few bad experiences were when I pre-booked. In my experience, the pre-booking has never worked right. Has resulted in a no-show each time.

Pinstripes, lots of em. Plus a couple dents.
    I have never Uber'd.
Took an actual Taxi a few years ago when I got stuck at O'hare Airport overnight

Being overseas for almost 10 years plus living in the sticks of Missouri - technology has passed me by.

I did get a fancy expensive new cell phone (Samsung Galaxy Note 10) a year ago. Big time upgrade from my previous phone that was one step up from a flip phone.

Our two most notable Uber experiences:
    1. Wife and a friend decided to Uber to a concert; at the last minute their ride was cancelled, and the app said the only ride available was an "Uber Black" (like luxury vehicle or something) for way more money. They decided to still go for it... what they got was someone in a 300m (not a terrible car, but not exactly luxury). I don't remember what the exact costs were, but I think the original was quoted at $35 or something like that, and the "black" cost just over $100.

    2. I was travelling for work in a city where uber eats had just launched (back when it was first launching), and decided to try it. My order never showed up, I had to call and get a refund. A couple months later, I was in the area again and decided to give it another shot... same thing happened again; food was picked up, driver drove past the hotel, and then just kept going; had to call and get a refund. Fast forward a while, and uber eats becomes available in my home area; decided one day, what the hell, and gave it another try... showed up super late, cold, and totally wrong food... called in to complain and see what could be done; they apologized, cancelled/refunded, asked me to order again, but when I went to order again, it booted me to login screen and I couldn't log in. Called back... turned out I was flagged for fraud and banned from uber, LOL. And when they banned me from uber eats, it banned me from ALL uber services. I tried to reach out to and explain and please my case (I didn't care about ever using uber eats again, but I used uber regularly when traveling for work), but I all got was replies back referring me to review their terms and conditions. Still banned to this day, so it's Lyft for me from here on out!

I've used Uber in San Diego and in Santiago, Chile. Both worked out fine. There's no way in hell I'm driving in S. America! The Chilean drivers were great - they wanted to practice speaking English and I wanted to practice my Spanglish. They were faster and less expensive (and maybe a wee bit safer) than taxis.

Time to vent. SF is crawling with Uber/Lyft. You'd be surprised how much traffic they contribute to, delaying regular folks who need to get around. I get it, there are times when people need the service for legitimate reasons but when it's customary for many people to use it on a regular basis it creates a situation that's not compatible with big cities. Plus the drivers are getting raked over pay after expenses which is their right to choose. They'd probably make more working at McD's at minimum wage but lose flexibility. Problem is it puts them in a situation where they are coming from way out to work in SF and sleep in their cars for several days and don't have access to bathrooms etc. Common to see a driver stand with their driver door open pretending to look at their phone while taking a piss in broad daylight, like in front of my house! I can go on and on but you get my point.

I'm done with Uber. Period. Dropped the Runner off at the detailers this am. Took the city bus back to my area .50c for 20 plus miles. Requested Uber for the remaining 8 miles. Some driver jumped on it. I waited..........and waited........ He canceled. Uber notified me and requested I try again. When I did, I got a message about how busy they were, and....... the price tripled to over 60 bucks for 8 miles. Ha! I'll walk!! Eight miles later and I'm home. I don't mind spending my money as needed, but you ain't gonna rob me.

Yup, and just to be clear - after having been locked down this past year. Walking eight miles kicked my ass.

I walk anywhere from 2 to 4 miles almost daily, 8 miles would kick my ass also. Congrats.

I hear that public defecation and urination is now pretty much normal and accepted in your area. :crapstorm:

Sad to see such a beautiful area descend into chaos.

Mountain Man: Unfortunately news reports are true. The east side of town has it worse with the occasional horrific/bizarre stuff, like the time someone left a large suitcase lined with a garbage bag full of waste. It boggles the mind.
