    Welcome bud!

I'm guessing the first link, because that second one now appears dead.

Sorry, I did this in January of 20 when I bought my truck. What I remember is this - the manual states to hold a button in the truck to program the truck. The Homelink site says you have to hold two buttons to program, and that was the trick. The Toyota manual has incorrect instructions, the Homelink site has the correct ones.

EDIT: from the Homelink site for a Genie:

    Intellicode 1 – General Instructions

    1. For first time training, press and hold the two outer HomeLink® buttons, releasing only when the HomeLink indicator light begins to flash, which may take up to 20 seconds. (Do not perform this step when training the additional HomeLink buttons.)
    2. Position the hand-held transmitter 1-3 inches away from the HomeLink surface (usually located on your visor, overhead console, or mirror), keeping the HomeLink indicator light in view.
    3. Using both hands, simultaneously press and hold both the desired HomeLink button and hand held transmitter button. DO NOT release until the HomeLink indicator light flashes slowly and then rapidly. When the indicator light flashes rapidly, both buttons may be released. (The rapid flashing indicates successful training.)
    4. A second person may make the following steps quicker and easier. Please use a ladder or other device. Do not stand on your vehicle to perform the next steps. On the garage door motorhead, press and release the learn code button - the red LED will begin to blink.
    5. Get back into your vehicle and press the desired HomeLink button one time.
    6. Press the desired HomeLink button a second time.
    7. Press the HomeLink button a third time. You should see the garage door open/close. HomeLink programming is complete.

nothing has been programmed but I still cleared the homelink system by holding buttons 1 & 3 down for about 10 seconds until I saw flashing green..

the method that work for me was from the "learn' button.. on my motorhead it said "program" for the button as previous posted in thread..so I held that down for a few seconds, it went from solid green to solid blue.. (this is where I messed up on several previous attempts)..I was trying to sync on solid blue. (wait for blinking purple)..

so from solid green, to solid blue..I waited a few more seconds and it started to blink purple..from there I went over to the car and pressed desired homelink button.. 2 seconds release and repeat until garage door closed.. BOOM! finally got it..

I know this is an old thread, but if anyone has trouble pairing with a genie remote, check the back of the remote for the software code. If it’s version 2.0.3 then it won’t work, you have to get a new remote or borrow one. I messed with this for hours, then finally found the genie instructions that showed to look for the software version… sure enough my remote had that. Got a new remote, worked exactly as explained above.!

Is there a way to program a remote from the home link button? I know how to go from remote to 4R but I need 4R to remote.

Do you mean you want the remote to learn from the 4R? If so does the 4R already know how to open the garage door? Ultimately, it's the door opener that runs the show. You can program a new remote for that door opener without the 4R being involved.

Yes, I’d like the remote to learn from the 4Runner if that’s even possible. The 4R knows how to open a gate and I want to be able to share that.
