I have a lithium jump pack, a few small bottles of water, and a sharp pocket knife.
Also, I have a heavy-duty tow strap, just in case. One point to hook it up on the rear hitch, and two hooks on the front.

Not the water itself but the bottle. If stored properly, unopened bottled water has a very long shelf life. Proper storage is cool and dark. Chemicals in plastics can leach out when hot, and algae can grow in a sunlit bottle. The longer the sun and heat exposure the more the chance of this happening.

Some of these are quite extensive, do you guys have a duffel bag in the back, or is everything scattered around. The third gen doesn't have one pocket that can fit what I carry, the knife is kept in the glove box with the radio, the flashlight and maps are put in the rear seat pockets, the tow strap is just thrown under one of the seats, the d-rings and jump leads are put in a wall compartment in the trunk area, and the flares are kept where the tire equipment is kept.

A small shovel. Got stuck in the snow on a trip to Yosemite when I was younger. Started digging with the tire chain box and swore I'd never forget to bring a shovel. Now I irrationally take it with me everywhere.

I hate having things rolling around loose in the back of the 4R. I chose to build storage to keep all of my junk neatly packed away.

I just pulled everything out last weekend. I didn’t see a point keeping the vehicle weighed down unnecessarily. I was probably carrying over 200 lbs in tools and gear I don’t really need with me most of the time.

I ended up building a box for that area with split compartments and lift cylinders to hold up the lids - but I LIKE the idea of your wheeled removable container. Wish I'd seen that before I went through the hassle of building my own.

Reading all the ideas of what to carry mostly mirrors what I have onboard. But realistically, how many times have you gone out with almost everything imaginable only to have left behind that ONE item you felt you would never need? Sh*t happens....
