So I’ve been looking at maybe replacing the cloth seats in my 2004 SR5 to Leather seats. Well I was doing some research and found out that the 40/60 rear row is opposite on the leather seat models. My 40 is on the passenger but their 40 is on the driver side. Is there any reason as to why they’re different?

That's really strange. My 40 is on the driver's side. I have leather but it was an add on synthetic, (fake) leather that someone added before I got it. I was gonna ask if by chance yours had a third row seat but after thinking about it, I don't think that was available in 04. I can't explain it. I thought they were all the same. I'll be curious to see if someone else on here has the answer.

I've got factory cloth in my 2005 and my 40% is also on the driver side like importman. Also curious about the leather being opposite

I went on autotrader and looked at literally 2 dozen different 4th gens and all of them had the 40 on the left. Makes me wonder if the OP is mistaken somehow or maybe his 4r was originally destined for another country or something.

Ok so everyone here has 40/60 then? That’s wild idk what’s up with mine. I do have third row seats in mine which is maybe why I have a 60/40??? . What do the seat tracks in y’all’s look like because maybe there’s a way I can switch seats around.

ohhh 3rd row might do it, maybe wider 60% on driver so they can help with entry to 3rd row . non-3rd rows don't have seat tracks, our seat bottoms fold up against the front seat backs, and then the 2nd row seatbacks fold flat

Hmm my 40 folds down and then up against the seat backs while my 60 only folds down. I looked at the bolts on the front and I don’t actually think there is anyway to switch sides because the 40’s frame or bolts whatever it’s called are closer together than the 60’s

I wondered about the third row. But as I said in my first response, I didn't think they were available in 04. That's got to be it. I don't know for sure but I'm guessing that to change that, it would require a whole new back seat, (both pieces), if it can even be done at all.

Yeah importman that’s what I’m thinking I’ve checked the nearest parts yard near me and they had 7 4RUNNERs there but none were third row models otherwise I would’ve pulled the seats out.

I guess it makes a little sense. With the 40 on the rh side, passengers can get into the 3rd row from that side rather than being on the "street" side. Like if you were parallel parked on a busy street. But I assume the material you need to switch to leather will be a lot harder to find. I'll try to find the contact info for the ebay seller I got my leather from. You can contact them and see if maybe they offer it or can make it for you.

Well, that was easier than I expected. The seller's username is:
    usautonation
You should be able to contact them through eBay. I replaced the seat bottoms on the front of mine. I went with the "fake" leather because someone before me had installed that in my 4r before I owned it. The seller was great to deal with. The fake leather looks good but I would recommend going with the real thing if you budget allows. The pieces I replaced looked really bad. I don't think the fake stuff holds up as well as genuine.
Edit to add: you'll probably have to explain what you've got to them. They may not have ever run into that.

One last thing. If you're able to find the material, changing it is not really difficult if you have a little mechanical ability. The one thing you may need to get is a set of hog ring pliers and some hog rings. Good luck.
