How does a Dodge SUV compare to a Toyota 4Runner within the year range of 3rd gen 4Runner?
It seems Toyota beats everything I have compared it to, but I haven't compared it to Dodge.
I'm probably picking up a 4Runner in a few days, and I don't have time to research the Dodge.

I'm not saying this because I own two 3rd Gens but because I work in a shop every day. There is no comparing them. End of story. The quality of builds are night of day.

not even close. dodge is not in the same league as toyota in terms of quality. the worst vehicles toyota ever made will last longer than some of the best dodge ever made

Oh contrare! Some of those dodge 2500/3500 Cummings diesels are pretty reliable and Toyota doesn't have a match for something that big. But I did just trade in my POS 99 Durango and kept my 99 4Runner :p. So yeah SUV-wise Toyota is much better than Dodge on all fronts. And yes I did just buy a 2016 dodge 1500 Eco-diesel over the tundra (Lets hope motortrend is right)

the cummins motor is good, the trans behind it apart from the v4500 or 5600 is absolute crap, and the bodies rust out quite quickly. ive got a friend who's been through 5 cummins trucks, all had the same issue, they were rusting apart after 10 years even with the best of care

Ok ok... the 12 valve cummins is BA. Not sure about the newer ones. That's the only exception I'll make. The suv market is no comparison at all....

Yea I agree ....for about every 2 or 3 maybe even four dodge that I've worked on ....I've had one Toyota. ....and it's never serious work....its regular maintenance for yotas....but then again the demographic is something to consider too

Best to check the kkb reviews. I like both. I really love the yota and I'm a big dodge lover.

Don't getting me wrong i own a 02 durango and that think is a tank ...and by no means is is it not not a capable truck because it is ....but I've serviced that truck for codes more times than the runner

I wouldn't mind a big dodge 3500 with a 12 valve Cummins and a Lance camper... to haul my 4rnr to the trail!
