some of us are cursed with tape that would not adhere and fingers too larger to get in there, besides pulling it is only a minute or two total

Yep. The Ultinons light up the ground much better than the OEM bulbs.

A heads up on the puddle lights. Might not be a bad idea to use some bulb grease on the bulb base or in the socket.

When I removed my OEM bulbs, there was moisture in the socket on both sides of the truck. Probably from the car wash, but who knows. The notable thing was that it was wet on both sides.

While your in there, might as well grease em up for long term viability.

Those Sylvania 921's aren't good in the 4runner housing.

I just got these. They're incredible and only $12. I'm blown away by how bright they are.

I think you'll be pleased with the output of the bulbs. Longevity is yet to be determined. For 12 bucks, if I get a couple years I'll be pleased.

I did the same thing on passenger side. Had to fish it out with tape on a stick. Are you still having good luck with the Sirius 921?

Great write up. Going to order some for my 4Runner as well. I too am not a fan of the stock lighting.

The Sylvania Zevo (local) and Philips Ultinon (Amazon) are great bulbs.

swapped out my cargo, dome and one map light with HID Kit pros LED's yesterday.

ran into what i hope is not a big problem:

as i was attempting to put the drivers side map light LED in, I could not get it to fit. the passenger side also gave me trouble but I managed to get it in and the light worked fine. on the drivers side i was pushing the LED but not too hard and wiggling it a little to see if that would help. then all of a sudden SNAP! the plug for the light looks intact, but im assuming its the surrounding plastic "housing" or attachment piece broke off and is up in the console. i can still see it, but i could also move it around when i tapped it w a needle nose pliers. i know i will have to take the console off which wont be very hard, but god damnit am i mad at myself for this one! hopefully it is just a piece of plastic that maybe i can krazy glue back together. i dont think any of the electrical aspect of it is damaged (at least what i could see before dropping the console).

anyhow, i put red in the cargo, bright white in the dome and one red in the drivers side map. they all look great!

What is the secret to getting the dome light in? I was able to get the lift gate lights in but the replacement dome light seems a tad to big. I used Yorkim 31mm Festoon LED Bulbs White Super Bright LED Interior Car Lights. DE3175 LED Bulb, DE3022 LED, 3175 LED Bulbs.

I have map-lights and a dome-light from Meso, as well as after-market vanity lights from my 2020 Tacoma that, at face value, look like they’ll fit the 2020 ORP 4Runner. Will report back if they’re a match.

@jester243 's original post with photos was extremely helpful. I faced the same issue in attempting to remove the f*@%ing map light bulbs. I got one of them loose, but the carrier assembly rolled away on top of the console and I couldn't figure out how to remove the console. The photos showing removal starting at the crawl control were a real time saver.

I fail to understand why LEDs aren't standard from the factory though.

agreed, the end result is a much more well lit area, and the color of the light is better than the drab yellow from the stock. LED should be standard inside and out by this point, but who knows maybe in the new version they make the change.

Hey 4runningMan.. quick question.. How are the Phillips Ultinon LED’s working out in regards to the issues you have in regards to the map light flicker when starting the 4Runner as well as the rear hatch door lights being lit very dimly?

We’re you able to fix the issues by any chance?
    Thanks in advance.

Did you ever find a fix for the map light flickering? Or the Rear Hatch Door Lights being lit very dimly?
Or just living with the issues?

    Thanks..
