Joining the dark side : it means a lot of things, but in my case, I put in my reservation for a Cybertruck.
The wifey already took over the 4Runner, I am stuck with the Mustang (what a bad place to be, first world problems, I guess).
So we started the rollout from ICE. The 4R is here to stay for a long time, however, driving these small distances around town here yields 16 mpg currently. Gas is already 4.49/gal (119c/l) here. I do not want to give it away, I just got it not even 6 months ago, but think about it: no more gas station,s no more oil changes, etc.
Sold the gas snowblower, will go cordless, as well as the lawnmower, soon.
Dreaming about a Tesla Wall for the house to get off the grid is one of my life desires. The hate I have for the Ontario power, I need to invent some new words to describe it.

Do you live in town? We do not live in a town/city and have this notion to have enough solar panels to eventually be off the grid. The only drawback is all the batteries required to store electricity. Maybe a partial off grid. It's a great idea, but for the area I live (rural) charging is very, very, very limited. We do have a generator that runs the whole house, and it came in handy when the power was out for a few days, but we still burn gas in the generator. Still in the planning stage, like your idea, hope it works for you.

Living in a small town, less than 10.000 people, lots of farmland and country roads.
And the demographics are not helping at all, more than half the population is Mennonite.
Lots of horse and carriage everywhere. Kinda cool to see a Model X at the light right beside 2 horses.
Best thing ever, I wish I left the big city and traffic years and years ago.

The town we live by has 400 people, next biggest town..2400, lots of amish around us. We have a small farm (475 acres) and like you said demographics are a hinder. People say 'you dream', I tell them 'dreams are what keep the soul alive!'. So maybe someday we'll have our '1/2 off grid place'..... I say, 'keep dreamin'!
