Everything related to the power train.
I’m not a mechanic, but I don’t see anything stock working with a new engine and transmission.

Anything can be done. For a price. I'd do a whole lot of searches first........tons. If you decide to, I'd love to follow along. So, let us know.

EDIT: Google this > adapt chevy small block to Toyota 4runner - it's a beginning.

If you don't have fab capability and experience with prior engine swaps, I'd probably look for a 3.4. That swap is well documented and is Toy to Toy

That said, a 5.3 GM would be ridiculously sweet, but never cheap to do it right

Years ago (2003-2004ish), I saw a 2nd Gen T4R 2WD on eBay that had a 350 in it; If I remember correctly, it even had the factory A/C hooked up!

I also saw a 1980s Toyota pickup with a Lexus V8 and a 5-speed stick in it at a car show back in 2018! Anything is possible; It all comes down to how much you're willing to spend!

Power to weight ratio is what you want to optimize if you are looking to do this. A small block Chevy is a heavy cast iron block engine. Now the 3.0L 3VZ-E is also cast iron but it is a relatively small V6.

So taking that into consideration if and when I decide to rid myself of my 3.0-Slow it will be for a 1UZ-FE all aluminum V8 engine from an early 90's donor vehicle like a Lexus SC400 or Toyota Soarer or Crown. Torque is increased and HP will be 100 more than that of the 3.0L. From my investigation into this the R150F works quite well with this engine.

You can also consider various other V-6's. The Buick and Chebby units are OK. Heck, and OHC turbo 4 could work nicely too.
