I'm thinking of trading in my 2018 TRD OR, non Premiem, for the 2021 TRD PRO Lunar Rock.

Question... What would be reasonable to pay for this upgrade in addition to my trade in? 15K, 20K?

    Thoughts please...

Since you already have experience with 4runner I'm surprised you think about TRD Pro.

TRD Pro is good for someone who lease a 4runner and mods are not an option.
If not, buying a TRD Off-road and change suspension and tires for the money you save is the best option IMO. Additionally you can add full skids front to back for not much money.
I bet you know TRD Off-road has every single offroad tech TRD Pro has.

Hard to say what a fair price would be. Depends on your mileage and money spent on the current rig.
It seems like the only benefit you’d be getting is the color plus a few convenience features.

I love my pro, but if I were in your shoes I’d keep your current rig.

Agreed. You could have a 4Runner far, far superior to a Pro for a lot less than the bath you're gonna take trading that in.

You're gonna have to come up with at least $15k out of pocket. For that money, you could install a set of Kings, then 285BFG's on nice wheels, then a set of SLEE sliders, then have enough left over for a Warn winch bumper, a Warn winch, Yakima cross bars, a Tepui roof top tent and Ridgid lights all around. And you'd still be ahead than if you went for a PRO. I dunno - that would be a tough pill for me to swallow unless you really want a particular color.

It all depends on what the dealer will give you. The Pro will be MSRP if not a bit more. 20K would sound about right with your trade unless you have high miles on it.

Paid 36.5k, dealer will give me 32.5k. 4k loss for 3 years, maybe not so bad? 53.5k for Pro. Looking at a delta of at least 21k. Really hard to justify, I do get it. Thanks for your rationale feedback! Argh!!

It looks like this thread needs balance, so for the sake of that and that alone, get the Pro. On a less humorous note, it all depends on what you want - its your money and some people just look at 15-20k through a different lens. I have a brother-in-law that can drop that on a weekend and not think twice about it. This may be the case for you, so bumping up to a Pro is EZPZ. There's people that want to mod out other trims because they are serious about their off-roading and can justify that purchase by doing it for less dollars. Others (maybe you?) want to get a Pro because it comes factory with features that meet your needs, because it has the Pro badge (good for resale) and because it has a special color, which puts you in a more exclusive "club" so to speak.

Me personally - I would take the pro all day everyday because I think its SEXY AF and I would not want to buy another trim and kit it out to look like a Pro. I don't feel more superior by any means, I just like the factory look.

Keep what ya have, slap 20k on a good stick pick and maybe you’ll make enough to pay cash for the pro

If you can do it for only a 4K loss after three years and really like the Lunar rock color then it’s a no brainer in my opinion. With the numbers you stated I’d tell them $20k or you’ll walk though. You won’t ever lose your ass getting a Pro and very few on here need $15k in suspension upgrades to an OR. The things most people tell you to buy do NOT make it more capable. The OR and Pro give 99% of us more than we need for the off roading. If you’re off roading and 1 inch of clearance makes that big of a difference then chances are you need about 3 - 4 more inches I’ve found. Nothing looks like a Pro and you’ll get difference of opinions. But it boils down to if you’ll leave it stock or not. If not then you’re wasting your money. I’ve never heard someone say they wish they got an OR instead of the Pro. I do hear it the other way a lot though. I don’t work on cars/trucks and was tired of modifying suspensions so the Pro was what I wanted out the door. But you’re good with whatever choice you make!

    Monochrome everything. LED reverse lights.
Money is relative. Most people on here seems to think their dollar spent is what you should do with yours. The pro does have some options your rig will never have such as the color, dual climate control, 12 way adjustable power seats on both driver and pax side, factory remote start and ability to do certain things with the toyota app. $20K to one person is not the same as it is for another. If you want a pro get a pro. who cares if you mod it out more later, we all spend too much on our rigs to justify anything one does over another in my opinion. I know I will. Like I said, its all relative.

And sounds like you’re like me and probably won’t keep it forever. When it is time to resale or trade and they type in the VIN and it’s a 2021 Pro you’ll be glad you went with it. Agree or disagree, the value of a stock Pro is unmatched.

Find a pro with 36k miles for that price and I’ll take it! And drive two.

But I do somewhat agree they’d try to give you that for your trade in and then price it up about $10,000. That’s the problem with Pros.

I am intrigued with the Pro and can afford it, but the TRD OR Premium seems to make the most sense. I feel the Pro upgrades are only worth half the $10,000 cost. I really dislike the Pro roof rack and would probably remove it immediately. Yet, I am still undecided! Much less inclined to modify the Pro - which is a good thing! Constantly hear about the higher resale value of Pro, but why buy a new vehicle with the enchantment of a higher resale value. I'm not thinking about resale value when buying a car! I love the pro's and con's of the Pro debate as I sit on the fence!

They all have high resale including the lowly SRX, to the point where it does not pay to buy a late model used. Then it boils down to which one has what you want? It has been pointed out that the Pro gives you the roof rack and lunar rock, but you can not get KDSS.

Personally, 20k for a paint color is a lot of money. You can put $4k into suspension and tires and have a superior truck to the TRD Pro. The roof rack is terrible on the pro and you change out the grill yourself. Id say it's not worth it, but Id support you in your decision to do if you wanted, LOL. Were all a little crazy in here, were on a forum where we gush over our trucks...
