Door chime function

Hey guys new member here like what I see ! Been over on t.4r for many yrs & needed a change but still have friends over there so..... anyway my question is has anyone that's pulled their dash apart doing stuff seen the chime itself ? I can hear it & sounds right behind speedometer , was hoping like lock/unlock pizio plug & unplug ? Used Carista to turn off annoying dings & dongs ,went into engine bay & unplugged the pizio so quiet now anyway thanks for reading my query !!

 

So thanks to the very outstanding Old Red ,have discovered the culprit & it
s so easy I can't believe no one has done it yet ! I will let Ol Red post a pic because I waited to long to keep mine. 2 screws are on steering column & pull bottom half off & on lower right there is 1 small white plug 2 wires just unclip & no more ding !

 

******How to Disable the key reminder*******

1) Push Start Ignition: NOT POSSIBLE. Sorry, it's a software feature.

2) Conventional Keyed Ignition:
For those wondering which connector in the steering column to unplug to disable the key reminder on 4R's with the conventional ignition, I circled it in blue. Remember the reminder is there for a reason, but do what you wish, it's your rig.

I would love to unplug everything that makes a chime or ding. Most annoying vehicle I have ever owned. I'm sure there are worse out there.

 

Will this stop the door chime when the vehicle is running in D/R and your driver door is open?

I wonder if this is the same for Push-to-Start. I also wonder how hard it'd be to put an in-line switch in that plug to easily turn it on/off.

My use case for this is often I find myself backing up on trails where opening the door can be useful to look behind you (following snow tracks or something for example) and it's insanely annoying to have that door chime screaming at you the entire time.

 

It does not stop the door chime.

 

I'm so happy to have these chimes for safety. I remember the day the door opened on my dad's classic vw bug. If it had these safety features that would not have happened.

 

They annoy me. They could at least be a bit quieter. I mean jeeze, they blow me out of the truck practically. SHUT YOU F@!*N DOOR!!! it says. Bro, just trying to get close to the curb over here.. I'm going 1 MPH.. chill. But at least it still let's me drive with the door open, so it could be worse.

I also hate that if I open my door BEFORE tuning off the engine, it keeps yelling (chime pause chime pause chime..) at me for some reason until I shut the door. Shut door, re-open, and no noise. How much sense does that make?

 

LOL, try keeping your truck running, getting out and opening the tailgate! Constant dings when you open the door; three beeps when you walk towards the back (assuming keys are in your pocket); three beeps when you open the tailgate; three more beeps when you close the tailgate. FFS!

 

I don't know about newer Jeeps, but on my 2004 Wrangler you could pull fuse #4 and it would defeat the door chime and interior lights. That was a handy if you had the doors off. Some folks put switches on that fuse, others (like me) just wrapped a string around it and yanked it out when needed.

Along a similar line of thinking, if you really hate the door chime, I bet you could install an additional switch inline with the door switch, or tape down the door switch temporarily so opening the door has no effect on it. Of course, this is also going to keep things like interior lights from working when you open the door.

If you wanted to get fancy, build circuit to reactivate this override switch after you've killed the engine so it reverts back to normal operation... a latching circuit of sorts. Then you'd have interior lights when you hop back in later without having to remember to reset the override switch.

 

This 1 plug shuts it all down ! As Old Red showed in photo
