Looking for a more permanent solution to treat and cover the frame of my TuRD. Bought it new off the lot last Sept 2018 and its showing some rust spots. Enough that I want to treat them. Truck is in the "deep south" so there is a lot of moisture, but not much in the way of road salts. What have you guys done? I'm thinking of hitting rust spots with por then maybe hitting every thing with Eastwood encapsulator premium and covering with a Eastwood chassis black 2 part epoxy. Then using Fluid film or lps3 on the inside of the frame. What does the group think? May not be the best topic for the detail section, but there is a lack of options for maintenance.

If it’s just surface rust and all you see in your local environment is humidity/moisture but no road salt or daily beach rides, all I would do is wire wheel the rust spots, top off with rattle can (I like duplicolor engine enamel) and let that cure for about a full week, then final coat of something similar to Fluid Film (I like CorrosionX HD myself)

Skip POR15. 4x4 forums really talk that stuff up, and I’ve used it myself in specific applications, but I’d pass. It’s not the mega rust treatment like people paint it out to be. I’d skip all the other Eastwood treatments unless your frame is a total rust bucket. But a few spots? Nah.

Be sure to give your frame a good flush and cleaning once or twice a year in addition to what else I said and it should be fine.

So much maintenance on a year old station wagon. I have used por with great results in the past. Issue I see is it needs to cover rust, but will not stick to a painted surface. The idea here is long lasting, low maintenance. I have no desire to coat the undercarriage every 6months. Just need it to look good so i can eventually get rid of it. 1st and last Toyota I will ever buy.

You don't need to use fluid film every six months, hell you can skip a year and do it every couple of years. It all depends on bad your winters get or if you expose it to beach sand or whatever. I'm thinking about skipping this year. I usually do it myself every October, once a year. An if you have a facility in your area that does it that would be even easier, I don't have such luck. At least then you will know it will look nice when it comes to resale.

I have used Eastwood before but that was their inner frame paint that I used on my old FJ 62. Worked great. May use it on the 4 in a couple of years.

KBS Coatings. Look them up. Small company in Indiana that specifically sells rust preventing sprays coatings everything. Been using it since 1995 in the salt capital of America and not so much as surface rust underneath. It's the equivalent of that old Knox Rust they don't sell anymore because it made people crossed eyed and huge amounts of brain damage from one whiff lethal but unreal protection. You can download free catalog at their site more recently.

I am in same boat nobody around that does fluid film and I cannot do it myself. I am in Michigan but don’t plan to drive in winter or salt etal.

I am trying research something called Value Guard by Line X. That may be something to research also. Just thought I would pass along.

Krown is a good product also. Applying it once a year is good enough.

Do you have that much rust which is why you would want to get rid of it? Or other issues? That is a bummer
