Hi Everyone, I have a problem with my 2007 Toyota 4runner that just started after a cold night parked outside. I started it in the morning and the airbag light started flashing while running. The light did the 6 sec test when the truck was first started as usual but after that if would not go out. It continued to just flash. I did the trouble shooting test using the jumper wire on the obdii port and got three codes. Code 28, 29, and 48. Code 28 is a Passenger Airbag ON/OFF Indicator Circuit Malfunction. Code 29 is a Roll Over Cut Off Indicator Malfunction. Code 48 is a Open in Side Squib LH Circuit. As you can see these codes don't point me in any direction. I thought this might be a clock spring issue but everything on the steering works great. Any ideas

ive never heard of this issue, might be worth a phone call or trip to a toyota mech or dealer, doesnt seem like its the easiest fix unless theres a fuse or relay for the system that could be bad/going bad

I would love to hear what you find out about this. My 2004 has a Squib error (according to my Techstream app) but I've never followed up on it. I think that my issue has to do with a ground problem, but I would love to get any more info about the issue.

Check all fuses and relays related to that system. Since it's the passenger system, it could be the module

After spending hours reading wiring diagrams, I decided that code 48 "Open in Side Squib LH Circuit" was my likely suspect since my drivers seat was removed 6 months earlier for a leather repair. Also since I sit on the drivers seat each day maybe something is loose or has loosen over time. I found one of my plugs under the seat was plugged together but not completely locked. As soon as I pushed it back together and felt the plug lock all my problems vanished. I since placed a plastic strap on that plug to prevent this from occurring again.

Always go back to the LAST thing done when these problems pop up! Glad you were able to fix it...Also, I think when you put Heavy stuff on the Passenger Seat, the Air Bag light (passenger side) will flash because the Seat Belt isn't fastened?

Perfect! Exactly the kind of troubleshooting I was looking for. Now, to go back and hook Techstream up to verify the error and start working through things.

That is a different light than what I am looking at, but what you are saying makes sense. But, for reference, the light I am trying to deal with is the one in the instrument cluster, tachometer side.

    This and that
I had that happen after one of my grandkids stuffed something under the passenger seat. All I had to do was run the seat back & forth a couple times. My guess is the plug was pulled a bit. Always look for the easy answer first!

Mine started flashing yesterday, guess I'll check under the seat. I did just shove my atlas back under there so a loose plug would make sense.
