not sure the importance of these metal brackets in regards to the trd pro rack. but it's standard equipment when you by a new trd pro 4runner. i dont work for toyota, but i'm sure there's a reason for this bracket :)

Looking at the installation instructions I still don't see the brackets being used.

Ha ha! guess i should of looked at it a little closer. Never have been very good at reading instructions. Its crazy how the more i read on doing this the more i see people say you need these brackets or you don't need these brackets. Cant believe that Toyota changed the design at some point.

There are a lot of idiots out there. Idiots get lucky all the time.

The instructions clearly show the brackets in place. The brackets are "required." Do it right or you're more likely to have issues down the road. Or take your chances because, hey, shit happens anyway right?

Love my Pro rack but can't wait to trade it in for a GOBI!

Thanks so much! Couldn’t find them anywhere. One review does mention that they’re “flat” compared to the 4Runner Pro crossbars being “curved”. Don’t think that would matter much. I could always move the two curved ones I have to one side if it made much of a difference.
