Front Coil upgrade

I currently have a 2016 TRD Pro and I'm wanting to add a lo-pro bumper and winch but worried about the added weight causing sag in the front end. I'm wanting to keep the Pro suspension for now and curious to know if upgrading the front coils will eliminate this issue and if so what coils would work? I was looking at the Dobinsons front coil lift (C59-748) and wondering if anyone has upgraded their coils for a situation like this?

Looks like it’ll lift an 1” over what you’re at now, so it should resolve any sag you’ll have. You’ll end up lifted either way I would say because I highly doubt a lopro bumper is heavy enough to bring you down a whole inch with the newer coils, even with a winch if you get one.

 

I’m in the process of adding a hidden winch mount/winch to a 2019 pro. Around 105 lbs total added up front. Let me know what you decide I’d be interested in your results.

I would contact @Crikeymike and ask him where he thinks you'll be sitting with that coil and the extra weight.

 

If you're settled on the winch and bumper for sure, regardless of what suspension is required to make it work (I hope that's the case), then go ahead and install it and then go from there. You may need nothing. Remember that the front of the TRD Pro already sits higher than the other 4Runner models, so you might be "OK".

If the sagging is too much, that Dobinsons spring is probably your best option. Otherwise, there are spacer kits, as well as some sort of modified collar kit. All raise it about an inch. You're in a tough boat because you want just a little bit of help. Spacers aren't really desirable in my eyes, but it might be your only choice if you don't want to touch the rear, and don't want the cali lean.

How many miles are on your truck? It might be time for a full suspension change, anyway...

This is why the Pro model isn't always the best choice.. the Pro suspension really wants to be left alone or fully swapped out IMO. That isn't aimed at the OP, I imagine you've enjoyed yours thus far!

 

If you are doing a true hidden winch and not a hybrid bumper, and you use synthetic line, your actual weight (after removing the 24 pounds of OEM sub-bumper) will be about +60 pounds. Most experiences I've seen including my own would indicate negligible sag. Whatever sag there is would be even less of an issue on a PRO due to the already leveled stance. I personally would do the hidden winch and not worry about suspension.

 

Appreciate the input. I’m going to install the bumper and winch and go from there. I might just decide to do a full suspension swap since it’s a 2016 after all. I totally agree that the pro isn’t for everyone but it has been great for me these past few years and I don’t regret getting one.

Great, yea I saw your write up about your hidden winch installs and that got me heading on the right track. Nice job. I ordered the HWMS mount tho. I’ll be doing a synthetic line and the probably a 8k winch. I would like to keep weight down as much as possible.

 

I agree, add the weight and see how it looks and rides, then upgrade the coils or suspension afterwards if needed. Sometimes a lift height change isn't that much, and some brands of bumpers aren't giving out accurate weight data too. The difference between shipping weight and actual weight of an item can be a LOT.

 

So I added a dual battery setup and a lo-pro bumper with a winch and only dropped 3/4 of an inch. I plan on switching out the suspension soon anyways but thanks for the help guys.

 

Which low pro bumper ? My C4 low pro bumper arrived today and it’s ~ 120lbs. Warn VR EVO 10-S Winch weighs ~ 72lbs.

That’s ~ 190lbs minus stock crash bar ~ 40lbs = 150lbs

with your hood open, you can ask someone who weighs ~150lbs to sit on the radiator area. This would simulate the added new weight.

I did this with my current 600lb spring rate and it went down ~ 1/2”

 

I got a C4 lo-pro but why is yours 120 pounds? My bumper is around 75 pounds and my 10s is only 66 pounds.

 

Yeah, 120 in shipping weight maybe but not the actual weight.

 

Yes it’s the shipping weight. But it’s a thin cardboard box. I’ll weigh it again when I open it up .

ohh forgot to mention, the additional weight is probably from the high clearance additions and wwt skid.

 

I'm running two odyssey batteries and they are 50 pounds each.
